I thought I would share a little background to "Baking Sweet Smiles". My name is Amy (Brandel) Sluis and I am from Cokato. I started baking cupcakes about 5 years ago for friends and family and about a year ago became licensed to bake non-perishable food items from my home kitchen...specializing in cupcakes. I love baking. I love the kitchen. I enjoy cupcakes because they can bring such a smile...thus "Baking Sweet Smiles". I frost only with buttercream frosting. I don't use any shortening. I don't use any fondant. I don't want the cupcakes to just be pretty....but I want them to taste like something you won't forget. I had a lady come up to me after eating one at a church function and tell me..."That cupcake was worth every calorie." It made me smile. Cupcakes are a treat. And...if you are going to splurge on the treat...I want you to enjoy every second! I tend to decorate very simply such as the picture here of a vanilla cupcake with a small red heart. I use very little if any food coloring, as again, I don't want the food coloring taste in my cupcakes. I love the elegant, simple look...and the taste that makes you smile and remember that cupcake!
