A new arts and community center under development in Cheshire, CT
The vision of Ball & Socket Arts is to:
Transform the historic Ball & Socket factory and grounds into an arts and entertainment complex housing performing spaces, visual art galleries, a cinema, classrooms, studios and and an outdoor park
Present curated exhibitions of professional artists with a focus on contemporary art, as well as exhibition spaces for regional artists and community organizations
Present professional music and theater performances and provide opportunities for community presentations
Present curated film series and screenings of work created by film and animation students
Offer classes, workshops and lectures taught by regional professional artists for children and adults, and engage Artists in Residence for special courses
Establish a fine-dining non-profit restaurant and culinary demonstration space which will feature guest chefs and offer classes in culinary arts
Create a sculpture park and art walk through the complex to bring a vibrant public space
Create a retail and casual dining village to complement the arts experience and draw new supporters to the complex.
The Team
Kevin Daly
Kevin is an artist, educator, and curator from Cheshire. He is the founder of the international artist collaborative MANIAC (Multi-media, Artist Network, Idea exchange, And Collaboration) which has been featured in numerous art publications and the subject of 3 major exhibitions. In addition to exhibiting extensively in New York, Connecticut, and California, he has curated numerous national and international exhibits. He has studied art at the Parsons School of Design, the San Francisco Art Institute, where he received a BFA in painting, and at Hunter College where he earned his MFA.
Jeffrey Guimond
Jeffrey is a pianist, conductor, chef, and arts administrator. He is currently Music Administrator for New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center. He has served as Artistic Planning Administrator for New York City Opera, Artistic Administrator for Opera New Jersey, and Director of Administration and Development for the Golandsky Institute Symposium and International Piano Festival at Princeton University. He holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music and the French Culinary Institute.
Ilona Somogyi
Ilona is a faculty member in the design department at the Yale School of Drama. She has worked as a professional costume designer at regional and commercial theaters in New York City, around the country and in Europe. She has collaborated at non-profit theaters of many different sizes from very small artist-initiated companies to multi-million dollar institutions. These include Hartford Stage, Westport Country Playhouse, Long Wharf Theater, Yale Repertory Theater, Williamstown Theater Festival, among many others. She received a BFA from Parsons School of Design and an MFA from the Yale School of Drama. She has been a Cheshire resident since the age of five.
