Description

OUR COMMITMENTS
The Baltimore Humane Society was founded to protect our region's pets and to address their suffering. Since inception, the Baltimore Humane Society has strived to reach its potential and to achieve its mission. Over the years, we've adopted a set of tenets that represent our commitments to the pets that come into our care. All of our efforts are centered around one word... humane.

LIVE HUMANE
Each individual has the power through their own actions and a focus on their personal ethics to live with respect for others and for other life.

LEAD HUMANE
Each individual has the strength to demonstrate and to educate others on their conviction that all individuals, be they man or animal, deserve respect and humane care.

BELIEVE HUMANE
Each individual can trust in the goodness and virtue of others and can believe that our community continues to move toward greater respect and humane treatment of the animals in our care.

DREAM HUMANE
Each individual can dream of tomorrow and the opportunities it will bring to progress our mission of a humane community.

Mission

Provide a temporary home, a safe refuge, and care for stray, unwanted and homeless animals. Work aggressively to place each animal that comes to our shelter in a loving, permanent home. Strive to end the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals by promoting and offering affordable spaying and neutering to control the population of unwanted animals in our area and addressing the issues that cause people to give up animals. Advance the cause of the humane treatment of animals and increase awareness of animal issues through public education. Ensure a peaceful final resting place for beloved companion animals through the operation of a beautiful and well-maintained cemetery.

I started volunteering at the Baltimore Humane Society almost a year ago and it has been such a fun and rewarding experience for me. I decided to become a volunteer to honor the life of my sweet doggy Prince, who was laid to rest in December 2021. I needed a place to redirect my love and gain the strength to adopt another dog. I volunteer as a dog walker and cat socialize there once a week and it really doesn’t feel like work at all. All the staff and volunteers are friendly, welcoming, and extremely helpful. This is also one of the cleanest shelters I’ve ever visited in my life. The staff and volunteers all do a great job of taking care of their animals and really truly want nothing more but to find every animal that enters their doors a loving furever home. I’m grateful to be apart of this mission and happy again…thanks to this experience.
They were so nice, patient, and thorough! The place was very clean and the staff was very professional. It is very obvious that they truly care for the animals and screen so that they get to go to a good home. They took the time to go over everything and offer so much support, even after the adoption. We are very grateful for our rescue from the lovely people at the Baltimore Humane Society!!!
I Absolutely love this place. We have gotten a cat and kitten from here. The staff really care about the welfare and we'll being of all of the animals. And are so instrumental in the whole adoption process. They are always available for any questions or concerns you may have. Pam is the Best! Thank you guys for all that you do
Adopted a dog here 2 years ago and had a great experience! Staff was super nice and really cared about the animals. I always recommend them to anyone looking to adopt.
adopted a cat here a few weeks ago. i didn’t see the dog area, but the main entrance to the adoption center and the cat room were very clean and well kept. all the cats’ cages were clean and they seemed well taken care of. the staff were very friendly and helpful.
We just adopted a dog from here. Filled out the application online and scheduled an appointment to come look at dogs . They helped me pick a dog that would fit my family’s needs. We were able to score some excellent items from the bargain bins as well. Overall process was easy and even got sent home with a small amount of Diamond’s food for her transition into a home . **Update** We had to rerun the Dog due to her high aggression towards our cat. I live in an apartment not a house so it was impossible to do a two week isolation between the two. The employees seemed mad that we didn’t stick it out two full weeks but I have a toddler in the home . Only had the dog about 5 days . We hope she finds a home without a cat . And for anyone curious .. no you don’t get the adoption fee money back.
Great adoption experience, counselors were awesome and adopted a kitty within 24 hours. They run specials often, their having a $25 adoption fee this weekend July 17,2021 but if you miss this one, they have them often. Also if you're low income in Baltimore city they waive most of the adoption fees.
I couldn’t be happier with the services provided to my sweet Hoagie Boy! He went in for a neuter and rabies vaccine; when I picked him up I was assured that he had done well and there were no complications. I was given post-op instructions and the sweet lady at the desk went over all necessary information as well. 24 hours later Hoagie is a happy and normal boy, and his surg site is healing nicely. The price was also incredibly affordable especially when compared to that of his primary vet. Thank you so much on behalf of me and Mr. Hoagie :
Brought our 6-month old puppy to be spayed. Scheduling, drop-off, and pick-up were easy and straight forward. At drop-off, we were offered seditive medication to help keep our puppy calm while she was healing, which was very helpful. Our puppy healed quickly with no issues, and you can barely see the scar. Highly recommend Baltimore Humane Society for spay/neuter service!
I adopted the smartest most loyal dog out of there 25 years ago. I have owned many good dogs but he was the best. The place is much cleaner and the animals are even better cared for now. It is a beautiful spot out in the countryside of Reisterstown. Also have a couple of dogs permanently resting on the grounds.
