Service is currently a bit slow because they are just opening. Expect to be patient. Well worth the patience in my opinion. Of all the tacos on the menu each one had a different mission with its flavors and that was a treat in and of itself when spending the time to really pick what to eat. Drinks were all well thought out and each had its own direction to take your tastebuds. This place is a bit adventurous for some people I know so go in ready to try new things or old things in ways not yet visited.
We wanted to try the happy hour menu before the Tab Benoit concert on Monday night. It was very disappointing. It was not at all crowded, in fact I would consider it quite slow and we waited 20 minutes to get a drink order. Another 10 mins to receive our drinks. The server was very nice, but not skilled at all. I always leave at least 20% tip, but I could not justify doing so with the bad service we experienced. No silverware or napkins, had to ask and wait, no salsa, asked and waited again. Had to ask for water and wait. My finished plate was never picked up the entire time we were at the table. I understand this is a new establishment and they may be ironing out the kinks, but I wouldn't go back. The food was okay, in fact good, but service was sub par at best. The show and music were great, so all in all had a great time!
Food prices are steep ~$12 for two "street tacos" with no side included. A side of rice is another $3. My chicken salad was $15.50. Ok, fine, we regularly pay these prices when we go out for dinner maybe not for 2 tacos with no sides .... BUT - then we were told that chips and salsa is a $5 charge. Seriously. My salad was an ok size, but there was only a very small portion of chicken on it. The chicken seemed like it was probably cooked at the BBQ restaurant next door - it was smoked- and it was shredded. I doubt it would have been the equivalent of a single shredded thigh. The $12 street tacos were small -typical street taco size. You could go to Harry Hines and get 3 of the same, with better tasting ingredients, for $5-6. The rice was the star of the show, and although we still don't understand why it isn't included in the price of the taco plate, we would pay $3 for it again. Except we probably won't be back. A HOUSE margarita is $12. Our waiter was nice! As someone who regularly goes out to higher-end restaurants, I just can't reconcile with a Mexican restaurant that charges so much for basic things and won't even start off on the right foot with gratis chips and salsa. There's no value in the experience here, and prices seem to be about 25-30% more than compatible places around Dallas. You can drive 5 miles in any direction and have an authentic meal from any number of Mexican joints for half the price. We've tried a few restaurants in this development, and we have the general feeling that the prices are set too high for the value that you get. We've also yet to find a true happy hour at any of these places, except for the reverse happy hour at Thirsty Lion which happens to be our favorite of all the establishments here and the weeknight specials at El Famoso free chips and salsa, but the food is mediocre. It's clear that prices are subsidizing the free "entertainment" at this complex, which right now consists of a DJ mixing songs that are blasting straight onto the porch of an adjacent restaurant. ****Edit**** When we asked about happy hour, there is a chance the server thought we were asking about at that moment and not in a general sense. That would be an honest mixup. I added a star to my original review because I feel like there may be some value in this establishment as a HH spot. I appreciate the response below, and I hope Bar Manzanilla continue to listens to reviews that are posted in the future. I also hope they serve free chips and salsa, get a true house margarita option, and no longer make patrons pay extra for rice and beans.
Tried this place tonight because I keep hearing about Big Beats Dallas. Chill atmosphere, attentive waitress who kept our drinks full, and freaking amazing food. No joke. I had the quesadillas with wagyu carne asada and it was delightful! My husband had "very tasty fish tacos with a good sauce." The place is yummy. They are off with their pricing by about 25%. For reals. The entrees don't come with sides. Those are $4 to $7 each. The chips and salsa alone are $7. For two people, we left spending $50 and are still a little hungry. For two small fish tacos it was $12. Good place, we'll probably be back, but not too often because of prices. I wouldn't mind paying those prices if it was 3 tacos and a side, but maybe they are trying to price out us middle classers to get a higher class clientele? Who knows. Just something to know before you go. To me, the food was on par with Taco Diner and Urban Taco, but the pricing was significantly higher for less. Give it a try and share your thoughts!
This is my second time trying Bar Manzanilla. The first time I was incredibly underwhelmed with their tacos and lack of service but decided to give it another try because I love the atmosphere of Big Beat Dallas. The second time wasn’t much better. Their $14 margarita tastes awful and is saturated with sweet and sour to the point to where it’s barely palatable. The queso is good, it really is. The $23 “wagyu” Chipotle steak is so SO SO SO over marinated that I could barely eat 1/5th of it. It’s incredibly vinegary and the portion size is three times what it should be for a steak that tastes that awful. The elotes are okay. The Tex Mex rice is okay. This place is the epitome of a restaurant that is trying too hard to differentiate with “modern mex” but is failing with their food. The atmosphere is incredible and they have such an opportunity to be a great establishment that Irving deserves, but their menu needs a real overhaul to even get close to that.
Surprisingly delicious!! My husband and I like to visit new places, today we visit this place and we loved it!! It was a bit hard to find it from where we park, but once we walk to it we love the decor and atmosphere. For appetizers we choose the "Pulled pork with Tostones" which was amazing!! The sauce was absolutely tasty and flavorful. We also ordered the "Queso" served with chips, both were really good, and as part of their "Happy hour" 3pm to 8pm the Queso was half price. We ordered a "Mojito" which was a bit to strong, but good. For our main entree I got the "Camaron" street tacos, and my husband ordered the Carne asada, both were good and served with a little side of rice mixed with black eye peas and beans. On the other side, the server wasn't the best, but overall a great experience. Our favorites? The Queso & the pulled pork with tostones!!
1 The drinks are expensive and weak. Small pours on wine and sugary, watered down margaritas $12??!!. Garbage. 2 The tacos range between $12-$19. Very, very small, but good tasting. Terrible value. Not a great place for drinks or food.
Several friends went here to enjoy a happy hour and service was so slow we couldn't really enjoy the specials. We would finish a drink and wait 10 to 20 minutes before being asked if we wanted another. We discovered going up to the bar and getting our own drinks was faster than waiting for service.
Only worth going during happy hour, if ever. Food prices are pretty high. Drinks filled with ice. Service is veryyyyy slow.
The service at this place stinks. It took me 30 minutes to get my check and another 20 to get my change back. If you have some place to be at any other time go somewhere else. I had a horrible customer service experience here.
