The Bard Debate Union is committed to promoting the values of civic discourse, dialogue, and debate in the Bard College community and the world at large.
The Bard Debate Union, founded in 2004, is a community of individuals committed to promoting the values of civic discourse, dialogue, and debate throughout the Bard College community, the greater Hudson Valley region of New York, and the world at large. The team travels to 10-12 intercollegiate debate tournaments each year at colleges and universities throughout the US, in addition to hosting public debates, debate workshops, and lectures on campus. The team is also involved in debate outreach projects in local middle schools and high schools. In 2013, the BDU, in partnership with the Bard Prison Initiative, began a branch of the team at the Bard campus at the Eastern NY Correctional Facility. The team at Eastern engages in intercollegiate competition, and is supported in Annandale by the research work of the BPI Debate Fellows.
