Experience international affairs first-hand in New York City, with a term of intensive study and a professional internship.
BGIA provides a unique opportunity for college students and recent college graduates from around the world to take advanced courses in international affairs while working in carefully selected internships based on individual interests—all while experiencing life in Manhattan, the island at the center of the world.
BGIA is designed for students of all academic majors. The program offers international affairs courses in an intimate teaching environment. Our faculty’s experience in the field of international affairs and at prestigious universities brings real-world expertise into the classroom. With BGIA’s internship program, students are matched with private, public, and nonprofit organizations in New York City. In addition, BGIA makes it possible for students to take advantage of New York City’s vast array of cultural offerings.
Through internships, faculty contacts, and BGIA’s extensive alumni network, students develop a community that extends beyond the duration of the program to provide excellent support to recent graduates.
BGIA was founded by the late diplomatic historian James Clarke Chace, the Managing Editor of Foreign Affairs and the World Policy Journal, and Paul W. Williams Professor of Government and Public Law at Bard College. BGIA honors Chace’s legacy with the James Clarke Chace speaker series.
