The Barre Town Fire Department is a call paid (often referred to as volunteer) fire department that directly serves a population of 7,924 residents in a sprawling 19,328-acre rural community. Barre Town is primarily a bedroom community mainly comprised of single and multi-family dwellings but does have significant industrial uses being home to Rock of Ages Granite Quarries along with commercial uses in our many villages and along both the Rt. 302 and 14 corridors. In addition, the Barre Town Fire Department provides first response coverage to the Town of Orange and heavy rescue response to several others. The Barre Town Fire Department is a founding member of the Capital Fire Mutual Aid System and as such provides mutual aid response to several other neighboring communities.
