Awesome! We couldn't get the guided tour because of high winds so I can't comment on that. But if you want to spend a couple of hours to see a one of a kind phenomena, go to the crater. Yeah it's a few dollars and overpriced, but if you can save up some money, I recommend it. I don't need to ever go back but I'm glad I went.
The rim tour is 45 minutes, which is dedicated, so no leaving early. The entrance is free to the military and then is $25 per person. Has multiple levels to view the crater from and an interactive museum to experience the phenomenon. Cafe on site as well. Lots of parking. Accessible walkways for most ability groups
We saw the signs on the freeway and decided to check it out during a trip across the country with a friend. We were on a schedule but thought we can take an hour or so to check it out. Should have looked up the price before driving out there. Didn’t want to spend $70 2adults and a dog and only be there for an hour. We decided to drive through the petrified forest instead for $25 about a 30 mile road through the dead forest and saw many amazing vistas and grand canyon like views. THAT was well worth it.
Its pretty neat to see. Recommend taking the 45 minute guided tour. Dress for the weather if you do. The museum exhibit is good an informative. There is also a little snack shop with some sandwiches and beverages. The gift shop is pretty good a well.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$21–30
This was another pretty cool stop along the way on our cross-country road trip. We were here for a good 90 minutes, there's a lot to see within the walls of this center. Very informative, with interactive displays and such. You can go outside and view the crater from a few different platforms. There was a line of about 20 people when we arrived but you get through that pretty quickly, and then you can pretty much go in and see what you want and start where you want.
Interesting museum dedicated to meteoric study. The landmark itself is amazing, and the documentation and historical overview most informative. There is also a 3D Simulation ride/film that is quite fun. Staff in the gift shop were engaged and enthusiastic. A most pleasant side trip off the highway. Recommended.
We left early, arrived shortly after opening,,Temperature was good...They have a nice cafe inside. They have a 10 minute film describing the Meteor Crater, a 4-D ride that children would love, last 10 minutes...The Guided tour is about half-mile out into the rim..Its about 45-55 minutes out and back...It has amazing views..
The facility is fabulous. There are outdoor walking paths, with telescopes to explore the crater from various levels. Multiple indoor displays share the history of the crater. I especially enjoyed the outdoor guided tour. A large gift shop is available for special momentos, and there is even a cozy coffee shop, where you can enjoy your favorite beverage and a bite to eat.
Awesome side trip to the best preserved meteor crater in the world! Beautiful information center. Great viewing areas. The movie about the origin and history of the meteor and crater was good. Many interactive displays, too. Walking tours are also available, weather permitting not too windy. 4D ride available I did not try this.
Very interesting historical find. Yes this is a cool site, but their museum that showcases all things meteor, volcanic, meteorite, etc was very very interesting. We took the tour, the 10 min theatre and walked to all 3 viewing locations. It was a 2-3 hour stay to see everything in a relaxed way.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$21–30
