"We Teach the Science Not the Violence"
"To Keep Kids off the Streets and in the Gym"
Barry’s Boxing is a non-profit organization, developed to encourage, not discourage young men and women in their pursuit of excellence in the sport of boxing, both in and out of the ring.
In affiliation and coordination with U.S.A. Boxing, we persist and insist on promoting safety first in boxing.
Our Motto is “We teach the science not the violence!” Although a catchy cliché, we believe it to be the true essence of quality boxing. Our sport was not tabbed the “Art of self-defense” and the “Sweet science”, because of it’s destructive or barbaric nature, but rather because of it’s being recognized as a solution to the violence of fighting.
True understanding of boxing is to appreciate it for the skill level of one’s ability to hit and not be hit, combined in a time frame (rounds) which tests for endurance and conditioning, rewarding the victor and satisfying the competitive spirit inside us all.
You can only gain and maintain the necessary physical conditioning needed in boxing through hard work, dedication, motivation, and inspiration. You can only fine-tune these admirable qualities through consistency and persistency. You can only acquire these attributes through a disciplined life style.
Barry’s Boxing provides mentors and an outlet for kids to release and focus their energies. Kids in our program have reported that once the got involved in our facility they stopped getting into fights at school. Many kids have stated that they know if they did not have the gym to go to they would be in a gang.
The many local, state, regional, and national tournaments that Barry’s Boxing constantly hosts and participates in allows the kids to set realistic achievable goals for themselves. Competition give the kids an opportunity to feel the sense of pride that only comes from a job well done.
