Went for a family visit to Abingdon and was lucky enough to go see Footloose at the Barter. It Was a wonderful experience!! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and we won the award for who traveled the farthest to be there award. I loved being here and seeing the theatre.
I saw the production of Footloose. It was an awesome show! I had a wonderful time. The barter is a great place to go. The atmosphere is nice and the attendants are very nice and helpful. If you haven't ever been, you need to go.
"By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes." - Shakespeare's Macbeth This was our first visit to the Barter Theatre, but certainly not our last! The employees were kind and helpful, even leading us right to our seats. From the moment the actors took the stage, we were captivated. The lights, the dramactics, and the unique seating of the Smith Theater transported us to Scotland . We appreciated the "lightning plot" the actors shared at the beginning. It made it much easier to follow what was happening. A favorite among our group was the battle scene towards the end. Barter Theatre shares a resource student study guide that suggests 9th grade and up. Bravo, Barter Theatre, Bravo!
Professional theatre in a beautiful city. Offers all kinds of shows for all ages in 2 stages. The shows are always terrific!
There's not a bad seat in the house. The plays are always top notch. If you ever get a chance to go there, take it. The history is really fascinating. This is a very professional venue.

Excellent. Over the years going to the Barter Theater have never had a bad show or experience. We saw It's A Wonderful Life. Very well done. Fast paced not a dead moment all the actors and actresses we great. The volunteers who work and help out are really great. Highly recommend going especially if you've never been. A true gem of Southwest Virginia.
A fantastic showing of FOOTLOOSE. Outstanding performance. It was our anniversary week, so we really enjoyed the Barter. Great job, by the performer's, staff and everyone involved.
Saw Sense and Sensibility on the Gilliam Stage at the Barter Theater and loved everything about it. The old historic theater is charming and comfortable and the cast and performance were outstanding!! Highly recommend. We stayed at the Martha Washington Inn across the street.
Cast was very well prepared! The barter is beautiful especially during the Christmas season! We saw "It's A Wonderful Life."
