My 78yr old mother was ill to the point she couldn't walk unassisted and her husband could not get her in the car himself. I was nowhere nearby so I called an ambulance on her behalf to take her to the BCH emergency room. She arrived at the hospital around 9:30 pm. They did a complete viral panel and Covid-19 test, bloodwork, and IV fluids, and evaluated her right knee that was painful. I received a call from the hospital at 11:45pm that my mother was being discharged and needed to be picked up ASAP. They said she had pink eye, bronchitis, and arthritis in her right knee. They were dispensing eye drops and having her take Tylenol. I explained that her husband couldn't help her physically move around so if she couldn't walk unassisted that she needed to stay until morning when I could arrive to help with her care. They explained that insurance criteria wasn't met to admit her and she needed to be picked up ASAP. I had to have the ambulance transfer her from BCH emergency to her home and EMT assisted her getting into bed. The next day, she was confused and weak and couldn't walk. My sister and I with help of 2 others loaded her in the car and drove to Bryan East in Lincoln where they saved her life and kept her hospitalized for 5 days
I've delivered one baby here. That same baby is now 5 and has had two separate two night stays here since birth. The care we both got was top notch! The facility is beautiful and comfortable, yet, the staff is noticeably focused on service and care. I'm so glad this hospital in Gage County.
I would have only given half a star but it wasn't an option. Kinda like in the area of Beatrice, NE when it comes to health care. My husband works all over this great Country building Petro-Chemical plants. While in Beatrice, his blood pressure shot way up and his normal meds he takes weren't working for him. So of to this ER we go were we presented our insurance card which states on the card there is no co-pay for emergency visits. I still receive weekly calls from this hospital telling me that I owe them my out of pocket cost for the year. Never in my entire adult life with insurance have I been scammed like this, ever! So even though we were there for nine hours to be told that there was nothing they could do for him. He needed to return to Texas to see his doctor, and oh by the way pay us 2500.00. Yeah I am disputing this and will NOT pay them this money, not one single dime of it! This hospital could stand to take a now from Texas hospital in how to care for sick people with compassion and caring understanding. Would never return to this hospital if my life depended on it! Consider yourself warned about this want to be hospital that needs every sick person that comes through the door to pay for their remodeling, very disappointed is an understatement.
I ended up here because i cut my arm pretty bad and was in need of stitches. I went to the emergency room with reasonably good insurance state of Nebraska insurance. Eleven stitches later I left. Then two weeks or so go by and I get a bill from the hospital for $1,100.00, and given only a year to pay. So hooray for me and another $100.00 per month bill. The prices they charge at this hospital are outrageous. How do I know? Prior to going to BCHHC I cut my finger and was again in need of stitches. This time though it was only 5. I didn't have insurance at this point and lived in Tecumseh. I went to the Johnson County Hospital emergency room and received stitches. My bill without insurance was only $600.00! That is only $500.00 less and I had no insurance. Also don't forget to pay or ask for BCHHC to give you a manageable payment because they don't care about your financial situation or whether you can afford to eat. They say this is what you will pay. If you fail to do it they will SUE YOU, and have your wages garnished. It is quite the nice little racket they have set up for the community they purport to care about serving. DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU ARE DYING!! If you are able to drive to Lincoln or any other area hospital as BCHHC is greedy and only cares about lining their coffers. If google let you I would merely post the word of warning and give this place 0 stars as it is not even deserving of 1.
Only way I will ever step into this hospital for treatment again is if I was unconscious and someone brought me there without my consent. Worst medical experience I've ever had and that's saying something 'cuz I've had some pretty poor experiences. Went into the ER because of nearly losing consciousness and being very weak & dizzy at work. My boss was very concerned and insisted I seek medical attention. My normal Dr. is in Lincoln and their office was about to close and we wouldn't have made it in time. She called around doc offices in Beatrice and since they are all now part of the hospital system, no one would see me unless I was a patient there. So unless we drove to Lincoln to an Urgent Care facility, the only other option was the BCH ER. Big mistake. Even though I expressed NUMEROUS times my concern for costs and was told that I could get financial assistance or "only have to pay $10 a month"--when I finally received my multiple bills, I just about had a panic attack. Even with my insurance paying out over $14,000--I was still responsible for just under $5,000!!!! All that money and they couldn't even diagnose me with what I really had--a lousy flu!! I could go on, and tell you how the lab tech didn't wear gloves to take my blood, or how the Dr. I was referred to for office visits basically accused my boyfriend of abusing me without any physical evidence... but I think I've sufficiently made my case. BE WARNED---unless you have amazing insurance that covers everything, or you absolutely have no other option---don't go here unless you like paying through the nose. Oh, btw--that financial assistance they dangled before me like a carrot to coax me in the door?? Not one dime do I get. If you have time--it's worth it to go to LincCare or another urgent care in Lincoln. If I would have gone to my Dr.'s walk-in clinic, I would have only had a $30 co-pay, and possibly a $25 at most prescription--MAYBE a blood test which would be about another $150. Yeah. You do the math...
My doctor there was good, but my big issue is with their billing.I was told that a particular test would not be covered by my insurance and then when the bills bills from 3 different entities came it totaled more than $3000. I had no warning whatsoever that it would amount to this and there is no way to pay it. I do not do financial business over the phone from past experience, but they do not give any other way of contacting them about a bill. I started paying as much as I could conceivably pay per month, but still kept getting letters in triplicate from them about each of the bills. Why are there even three bills for one test? And I don't know about anyone else, but who has $3000 lying around to pay for a test that really didn't conclude anything. I'm beginning to think with the cost of health care, that most of our health would be better if not for the stress caused by health care billing.
On the way home from Lincoln to our home in Alexandria, I got a terrible migrane. My husband decided that I wouldn't make it all the way home. We checked in to the ER. Everyone was nice and knowledgeable about my rare Addison's diseaseadrenal insufficiency. I was seen quickly and evaluated by the Nurse Practicioner on call. She thought it was more adrenal crisis than migraine. They had no trouble with my port. The nurse used very sterile procedures!! After some IV fluids and steroids I was feeling much better. Thank you to everyone who took care of me. I forgot your names, but I will never forget the wonderful care I received tonight!! Thank you again!!
Great staff. They made sure that I was comfortable and took time to listen to my concerns. I love having incredible caring people in my community. My nurses Mark, and Janae were amazing, and Dr.Friesen was great.
The only decent thing about this hospital is the women and children’s clinic and the two best people in that side are dr grone and Lindsey. Otherwise it’s not worth it. I’ll go to Lincoln for an er run or just figure it out on my own and pray I don’t die in my bed or wherever I’m at
My son went in with a possible broken knuckle. The Dr "Mike" that came in to see him was rude and had non caring attitude. I myself went to this hospital when I broke my leg. They sent me to Bryan West in Lincoln because they didn't want to deal with it. We will not be back to this hospital.
