Bring your hiking boots and snow shoes, as the surrounding acreage features a white pine forest, accented by hardwood and birch, and wetlands, inviting exploration and discovery. Bald Eagles and Red-tailed hawks hunt by day, while the call of the Great Horned Owl highlights nights around the camp fire. Have your camera ready, while relaxing on the porch, as black bear, coyote and fox, exciting to see, but harmless, wander into the yard from the pine bogs.
High Peaks hiking for aspiring 46ers, and easy mountain hikes for beginners, featuring wonderful summit views, are all around. You can walk to great fishing for brown and rainbow trout in the West Branch of the Ausable River.
The Adirondack Wildlife Refuge, and its fifty acres of fun and adventure, is only a few miles away. At the Refuge, you can paddle our canoes and kayaks up and down the Ausable River and Lake Everest, walk your dog on the Wildlife Refuge Trail, and show your kids bald eagles, owls, falcons and hawks recovering in the Wildlife Rehab Center, or meet Cree and Zeebie, our resident wolves.
