Beckley Furnace, located in East Canaan, is the State of Connecticut's sole Industrial Monument. The Friends of Beckley Furnace, Inc., a not-for-profit organization, invite you to visit Beckley Furnace!
There are pictures and more information available at our website, www.beckleyfurnace.org
Knowledgeable guides are available at the furnace on Summer Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM to answer questions, provide background about the historic iron industry, and to show a video on the subject. The grounds themselves are open daylight hours year-round. There is abundant interpretive signage to help you with a self-guided tour. Admission to Beckley Furnace is free.
Beckley Furnace was originally one of more than 20 blast furnaces in the tri-state area (and one of four located in East Canaan), making Salisbury iron ore into pig iron. Today, restored, it stands as a memorial to that vanished iron industry.
Our product is knowledge: of Beckley Furnace and the one-time East Canaan industrial area, of the Iron Heritage of Connecticut's northwest corner (and the surrounding area), and of the people that made it all happen.
