Bella Luna Wood-Fired Pizza

About

Bella Luna is Harrisonburg's first farm-to-table pizza restaurant.

Description

Our Neapolitan-inspired, thin-crusted pizza is baked at 900 degrees in a traditional wood-fired oven, just as it was over 200 years ago in Naples, Italy. This Old World process, featuring high heat and live flame, allows us to create a crust with wonderfully unique textures and flavors.

Our dough is hand-made fresh daily, using only four ingredients: flour, water, salt and yeast. Guests may watch as our pizza chefs press out the dough, top it with artisanal ingredients and slide it into the wood-fired oven. After about two minutes in the intense heat, our pizza, with its blistered crust and caramelized toppings, is ready for your table.

Our pizzas, hand-made pastas, salads and appetizers feature house-made mozzarella and sausage, as well as seasonal produce, cheeses and meats delivered daily from small family farms in the Shenandoah Valley and Central Virginia. We use an abundant renewable resource to heat our wood-fired oven: local white and red oak.

My wife really likes the pizza. I really like the meatballs. My picture of the meatballs doesn't do them justice. They are excellent. The pizza is very good too. There was an issue with the order, though. One of our pizzas wasn't made correctly. I was a little frustrated and called back. They immediately offered to make it right. I was pleasantly surprised and my wife said that action alone would give them 5 stars in her book. So there ya go. We ordered this meal to go but the restaurant is also great to hang out in and drink some cool refreshments. Parking: Free parking garage right across the street. There are some permit only spaces so watch the signs and the times.
We had one of the worst service experiences here. The food was delicious and all the other staff were very nice. However we had to get up from the table several times to get things we needed including the refills, ranchwhich we asked for when we ordered, the check and box. We tried to “flag” down and get the servers attention multiple times but she would not pay us any attention. The bartender ended up helping us more than our actual server. We wanted to get dessert here as we were celebrating a birthday but opted out after the horrible service.
My wife and I came here for our 1 year anniversary, and we were shocked. I have never in my life had a meal where every single aspect of the food is perfect. We drove from Michigan, and this one meal alone was worth the 14 hour drive. The pasta was completely hand rolled and hang made. This meal was so good we came back the next day for dinner and had the exact same meal. It’s that good. Service 5/5 Food 5/5 Drink 5/5
Great atmosphere and good pizza. The appetizers were just okay and the pizza sauce was not as spicy as I anticipated. The house sangria was really good though and the service was excellent.
Very nice! The pizza was amazing! The service was nice and quick, although we went around 3 on a Sunday. The outside seating was in their entry way, but out of the way of the city bustle and very clean and dog friendly! Loved it!Food: 5/5
What a great place. Pizza is delicious and crust is unique. Best margarita I ever had. Brooklyn is good and the pesto and green olive pizza is creative but it is on the sour side. The mushroom white pizza was a bit garlicky for my taste. The mushroom pasta is mouthwatering. Menu is small especially for the pasta. I like their caesar and mixed greens too. Went there two time in less than a month. Very contemporary vibe in a old workshop style venue. Friendly staff too. Will try their sourdough bread, looks yummy. Love it.
I typically like my hummus as traditional as possible, but the butternut squash hummus was the DELICIOUS, and the flatbread it came with fresh and perfectly fluffy. The pizza was tasty and perfect texture. Drinks were on point and boozy. Many thanks to our wonderful waitress Ella who was kind and attentive!Food: 5/5
Great atmosphere and pizza. I love that they have mocktail options! The service was great. We wish we lived closer so we could frequent here often and try more of their pizzas. So many dishes that went by our table looked and smelt delicious. This is a must try!!Food: 5/5
The theme here is over promise and under deliver. Kudos to our server as he was truly delightful and the one shining spot of the evening. He was attentive and our food came in a timely manner. Everything else about the experience left much to be desired. The hostess was rather unfriendly and the place doesn’t really have a spot for you to wait for your table to be ready. I have heard so much about this place and was woefully disappointed. Don’t waste your time or money on an appetizer; the portions aren’t even enough to satisfy one person. The three overcooked risotto fritters weren’t worth the price and were generally unremarkable. The pizza. Allegedly rated the best in the valley. I would say average at best. The descriptions either don’t match the ingredients, or someone really messed up our order. The sausage pizza has a “spicy marinara.” Unsure of what it is spiced with because it was a pretty run of the mill tomato sauce that tasted no different than our other pizza. I’ve never had “fennel sausage” where the fennel can’t be seen or tasted. Very bland. The pizza was also a bit blonde; it was thus chewy and lacked that signature wood fired taste that it should have. The speciality pizza was a pesto-fontina-pepperoni. In comparison, there was some flavor here. The pepperoni had decent flavor and the pesto was a good consistency; not too oily. The pizza crust, despite being a bit underdone, had good flavor. To add insult to injury, when we asked for a container to take our leftovers home, we were presented with a folded piece of foil. Other guests had actual containers; guess we weren’t special enough. Needless to say, this place isn’t worth the hype. I won’t be rushing back here next time I’m in town.
This is a great local pizza place. I am Italian, so I am critical when it comes to pizza, but this place did not disappoint. I ordered a pizza with arugula and prosciutto. The dough and crust was amazing and reminded me of pizzas I've had in Italy. The cheese pretty good, but it was overly greasy for my taste. This might have been due to the prosciutto, however. Everyone at my table enjoyed their food, and we took home our leftovers. I would definitely recommend this place if you are in town! Prices are pretty fair for the location and what you are getting. I would come here again. Visit their gelateria down the street afterwards!
