Bennison’s has been a standard tradition in Evanston for years and now I understand why. From the moment you walk in the front door you feel like you are being transported to yesteryear! The staff is friendly and kind. All of the sweets and treats were perfect choices. The macaroons were lovely as well. We sat outside on the patio and took in the day. We will definitely be back sometime soon.
Delicious bakery but pricy. I was looking for tiramisu they didn’t have one.. well ok , got some awesome almond -caramel cookies. Then went to regular grocery store with bakery . For the price of those cookies I can buy 2 Tiramisu cakes
If you’re in Evanston looking for donuts… Bennison’s. Grew up getting donuts here and maybe it’s the childhood nostalgia? But from the line that circles this place every morning I doubt it. Donuts are always fresh and tasty. But my favorites are the danishes and Maple Bacon donuts!
I ordered a Sacher torte cake for my boyfriend’s birthday. As an Italian, I tried dozens of Sachers so I consider I have good experience. I thought that for $38 I would get a good cake but this was one of the worst ones I tried in my life. Not a Sacher at all. The cake base was DRY and they had to put a lot of jam that made it taste more like bread and jam that a $38 cake. Seems like they recycled an old one or just do not know what they are doing. I could have made a better cake myself or buy one from a supermarket. Additionally, the inscription was terrible, unpresentable. I wasted my money.
Such a fantastic, cute little bakery to go to. My partner and I buy pastries like croissants, donuts and muffins pretty often. We also get our sourdough bread here almost weekly. This place is for both locals and tourists. Hell, I would drive across the city if that's what it took. Thankful to live so close to always get what's fresh and new. If you enjoy homemade bread, pastries and such, this is the place to go.
Unfortunately I’ve had a negative experience with pre-ordering at Bennison’s worth sharing. I made sure to call on Monday to place an order for Thursday after being told the particular pastry I wanted takes 2-3 days to prepare. I expressed that this was a birthday order, and was told no problem. I received a missed call and voicemail on Wednesday requesting that the pick up time be changed from our decided on 11am to 2pm Thursday to give then more time, and that I should call back at 6pm to confirm. I received the voicemail after returning home from a long day at 8pm and did not confirm that this was okay — we had made family plans around 11am. I made sure to call first thing in the morning to check in, and was told that my order was indeed on the roster for an 11am pick up, in spite of the voicemail. Well folks— it was not ready. AND, we were told it wouldn’t be ready until 3pm ended up being closer to 3:30pm and my family was waiting for pick up. With all of this, the only thing offered was a “1/8 discount” on an order I had already paid for, which amounts to $4.50, the cost for one of the pastries. This delay ruined our family’s birthday gathering — and ultimately the pastries were not ready, the custard was not set and had clearly been made in a rush. It’s been a very discouraging first experience at Bennison’s and I doubt we will trust them enough with another special occasion.
We bought a cheese cakein the pic two croissant, a bag of and a dozen of chocolate cookies. The shopping assistant was really friendly and helped us a lot. She is talkative and we would definitely be returning costumers. For the foods, the one surprise me most is the cheesecake. I was afraid it would be so sweet but it didn’t. It tastes like yogurt and super soft. It melt the time reaches into the mouth. I broiled a cup of jasmine green tea without sugar or honey. they fits so well together, I would highly recommend taking the tea and cheesecake at the same time. The croissants were really crispy , however the inside is soft and have a perfect smell of butter. I regret I only bought two of them. Quite sure they would taste better after re-heated and serve with butter on the top. The cookie with chocolate is a dark chocolate brand. Though I personally prefer milk chocolate rather than dark chocolate. I asked my husband, who is a huge dark chocolate fan, he appreciated all the cookiewe bought a dozenand finished them in one day xD. This is a excellent shop, will visit the other day. I also wonder will there be fresh-baked croissant in the early morning. So I can bike all the way there and enjoy
One of my favorite bakeries in the Chicagoland in Chicago suburbs. They often do different items with the season and there year-round items are some of the best I've ever had. They do offer sandwiches that are pre-made that are surprisingly very good. From their coffee to their daily baked goods to their made to order cakes they usually require 24-48 hours notice for custom cakes but they can do almost anything. I would highly recommend Bennison's Bakery for and baked good. I would say if they had a rewards program I would be in much more often.
We have heard good things about the bakery, but with a major storm coming they were not flexible in helping to change our order from pickup to delivery or to an earlier time for pickup and we had to cancel the order. Understand it being busy during the holidays but completely not willing to bend or help
It's a nice small bakery with good variety of pastries cakes donuts and so on. Of course you can order coffee or anything to go. They have dome tables you can sit in but overall it's not a very pleasant place to sit in. If you want the fancy cake or a specific pie you need to order it in advance usually a day before because they don't make those everyday. The staff are nice and helpful and the prices are fair.
