Wellness is an active process that allows people to make positive choices in creating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It includes a positive approach to life and health that helps to maximize the individual's potential. A personal wellness lifestyle is associated with good physical health, emotional and spiritual stability, improved personal relationships, as well as increased satisfaction and joy.
Charles B. Corbin of Arizona State University gives this definition of wellness: “Wellness is a multidimensional state of being describing the existence of positive health in an individual as exemplified by quality of life and a sense of well-being.”
Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a more successful existence.
Process means that improvement is always possible
Aware means that we are continuously seeking more information about how we can improve.
Choices means that we consider a variety of options and select those in our best interest.
Success is determined by each individual to be their collection of life accomplishments.
LiveWell is Berklee’s wellness and health promotion program designed for the student musician. Serving as a web of support for the student throughout his or her time studying at Berklee, LiveWell provides information to the many wellness offerings available on and around campus as well as supports special wellness programs.
The mission of the LiveWell Program is to enhance students’ fitness and wellness, knowledge, personal skills, and enjoyment. Built on the ten (10) dimensions of wellness - Physical • Occupational • Social • Intellectual • Spiritual • Emotional • Sexual • Career / Financial • Environmental • Socio-Cultural, LiveWell aims to be a resource to all students. Offices and departments such as Counseling and Advising Center, Student Activities, Student Affairs, Performance Division, Liberal Arts, Music Therapy and others collaborate with LiveWell promoting positive lifestyle behaviors and choices, encouraging a holistic philosophy, and combining a pro-active and balanced approach to healthy living through classes, workshops, programs, events, and services.
