We stopped here for one night on our way north and were pleasantly surprised to visit the bar and restaurant inside, Simply Sonya’s. The fried pickles were PERFECT & drinks very nicely priced! In the morning, the breakfast was the best hotel breakfast I’ve ever had. Veronica at the front desk was very friendly and let us know the fair had just come to town - walking distance, right around the corner! Our room was clean, tidy, and smelled good. We enjoyed our stay here!
I gave this place one star and it barely deserved that. The place is run down. It needs a MAJOR face lift. The rooms had a smell to them and the plumbing was not good. The shower didn't drain so there was standing water while you took a shower which is absolutely disgusting. The room was also not cleaned well. I cleaned it myself as much as I could when I got there I wish I would have taken a pic of the dirty wipes but I just wanted them out of my hand and in the trash. House keeping provided new towels daily but missed the trash the first day. Rooms are not as spacious and nice as the pictures and the walls are paper thin. And last but not least our sleep was interrupted 2 out of the 3 nights we stayed by loud guests and music until 4am BOTH nights. I guess I paid for convenience because it definitely wasn't for quality!
Called to check on electric vehicle plug availability and they said they were all broken. about 15 min away was a supercharger so not bad. Very pleasant staff at front desk. Rooms need updating but was clean. They didn’t make the bed - stayed 3 nights. Breakfast was goodRooms: 3/5
I was willing to deal with my stay and the half clean outdated bathroom because of the occasion. I am not willing to be double billed for it! Check your card statement. Credit card use facility only. Card not always verified at check-in. Card was charged without consent for 2 rooms. Have a ticket pending. Hotel unwilling to correct issue without another card being provided. Allowing fraudulent activity as long as they get theirs.
Not a good first impression. FYI they charge you a $35 fee for an early check-in even if a room is ready. I've never been to a hotel that did this. I expect that for a late checkout. Will update you once I finally get into my room. Update: I’ve never been no a smaller bathroom in my life oh and the toilet seat was broken almost fell off! “checkout the photos/videos” the pool was closed wish I knew this before booking even the patio wasn’t furnished like stated on their page. The fridge barely kept our items cold. The only plus about this stay was the bed was comfortable. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone staying more than a night.
The beds are nice and the A/C works great....but why have guest laundry but can give no change to guest to use? Sure they have QR code that charges you more to use the machines.. I would not recommend staying longer than two days unless you find a laundry mat that isn't in the stabby part of town.
I'm not big into leaving reviews, which is to say that I don't leave many. But owing to the fact that my experience with this motel left me with significant lower back pain, a pelvic contusion, and spasms in my paraspinal muscle, I feel a bit more compelled to write a review. I've lodged in literally hundreds of hotels, motels, and inns throughout my life for various reasons. This lodging experience was by far my WORST. That is a significant and profound remark, considering the sample size! While attempting to use the shower bath in my room for the first and only time during my first stay, my first step into the shower resulted in an immediate, violent, un-arrested slip and fall. I landed hard on my left butt cheek, "but" my "natural padding" was yet insufficient to absorb the force of the impact without resulting in injury. The surface of the tub is pure porcelain with nothing on it to aid or foster any traction; hence, it is a true and bona fide slip/fall hazard! The fall was so immediate, quick, and forceful, that one could reasonably say that it happened in a "flash." I'm perfectly ambulatory; the last time I slipped an fell in any shower including my own was over twenty years ago. This is the only shower - related injury I've ever sustained. I use my shower on a daily basis. It's floor is tiled and has no traction tape on it, and I've never had any slip or footing related issues with it. Let me conclude this section my review by stating for the record or any record out there that the shower-bath in room #446 at least, is a definite, unequivocal, bona fide HAZARD TO HEALTH AND SAFETY. Moving on, let me address some other suboptimal aspects of this sad, dilapidated mis-represented property. It's old and decrepit. After having reviewed the photos of this establishment in the property profile AFTER my hellacious stay, it was all too apparent why I asked my wife, "is this really the place?" when we came to the end of our GPS-assisted route. The structure's exterior is "tired" and neglected. It needs a top to bottom pressure washing and re-painting job in the worst way. The exterior room windows need re-trimming and re-caulking. The best thing about the entire property is its primary sign alongside University Boulevard. It's all downhill from there, folks. Now for the interior. This place is fifty-plus years old, but has not had any discernable renovations or upgrades. The same can be said of responsible routine maintenance and repair. The walls need to be retextured and repainted. The place is dim and dingy. It's clear that in addition to trying to save money from performing any non DHEC mandated repairs, that management a form of slum lord, or it is in bankruptcy. They need to pump light into the place by adding skylights, large, designer exterior windows, and entirely new overhead and sconce lighting. They clearly are un-ashamed that many of their hallway sconce lights are burnt out. This description of the lighting applies to the lobby, restaurant , elevators, and room corridors. The elevator: Both elevators are terrible, unventilated, slow, noisy, dimly lit, and stuffy. The identifying paint of the floor selector buttons has long since worn away. Being blind here would be advantageous, as the brail next to the visually unidentifiable number is the only detail in its original condition. Now for our room #446: The king bed had NO comforter or blanket on it; only two think sheets. Like to bundle up in bed at night under blankets and covers? Look elsewhere. We called down to the front desk to request a blanket: "we have no clean blankets available" was the reply. The toilet seat was broken. The plunger in the sink cannot be released after placing it in the down position. After shaving, the sink remained nearly full - no way to drain the sink. Do yourself a favor: avoid this place at all costs.
Trashy and VERY overpriced. Ice machine didn’t work. Towels smelt like cheap dollar store detergent loaded with chemical perfumes. I guess this is where we are now with inflation but I would have figured this to be a $70 dollar a night room not $170. Bathroom is like 12 square feet. Not even enough room to close the door without half sitting on the sink. Needs major renovations. There were signs to a “spa” that we couldn’t locate but did come to a dark creepy hallway the the lights had gone out in. Not turned off just horror movie like scene. The side door we entered into from the parking lot didn’t seem to shut. Not just didn’t lock but didn’t even close. Also the neighbors backyard patio had a perfect view into our room.
This older but refreshed hotel is well suited for family and friends... The convenience to the conference center is exceptional... The staff from my experience is very helpful and smiling... It is not a perfect location but none that deters me from being here again... I would recommend based upon my experience...Rooms: 5/5
