I got medium knotless braids from this salon two weeks ago even though I asked for small and they look horrendous. I paid $250 for everything, which included the service, braiding hair, and a tip. But a few days after getting them done, I noticed that my real hair was poking through almost every single one of my braids and also that a lot of the braids, especially in the back, were extremely loose. Later that night, I went to a dance rehearsal and one of my braids fell out! I can't even begin to explain how furious I was. I went back to the salon the next day to have them rebraid the one braid that had fallen out and still, it was done poorly. Not only were my braids of a terrible quality, but the atmosphere itself was highly unprofessional and full of rude people. I have attached pictures of my hair below. I literally got these done 16 days ago and I am taking them out tonight. There are so many people/places in the Providence area that offer professional, quality hair services for a reasonable price— BET salon is not one of them. Hoping this post can save someone else their time and money... please don't go here!Service: Braids
BET Salon & Beauty Supplies: A truly down to earth, no-nonsense, hair salon. You go in, get your hair done by a professional stylist, and walk out looking and feeling just a bit younger and quite a bit better!! My stylist is Janet and she is awesome with dreadlocks; there are quite a few other stylists at the salon, too. All capable beauticians, I'm sure. After several years as a frequent customer, I am more than satisfied with the expertise of my stylist at BET Salon.
I go to one woman named tika. She does a fantastic job but making an appointment is like pulling teeth. Even after you get your hair done and ask to book another appointment for 2 weeks out they say just call. Then when you call they give you the run around. I have seen them take the bigger appointments and dismiss the smaller ones to make more money which isn't professional. If they don't want to do business they eventually take the phone off the hook so you get a busy ringServices: Box Braids
I’ve only gotten my hair done from BET once and it was a horrible experience. They had me waiting for my appointment. When I finally got in the chair for single braids, they started me and had me get up out of my chair to start someone else. When she continued to do my hair, towards the end she was running out of hair. I saw her picking up hair off of the floor and using it in my head. I also saw other stylists doing it as well. My hair didn’t even last me 3 weeks. I usually keep singles in for about 3-4 months. I’d never go again. Recently, I went in with half of my hair done because I had ran out of needle thread. When I entered the building I was being looked at as if I shouldn’t have been there. I asked for needle thread, and I handed her a card and the woman Blessing said “no” and started walking away before I could even present cash. I proceeded on to tell her I had a $20 bill and she all of sudden didn’t have any change. Horrible business. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS. SAVE YOUR MONEY. You’re better off going to someone in house. BTW I also heard that the owner of the shop takes half of the girls profits.
I got my hair braided by a Haitian woman who did a wonderful job. I felt like she listened to me and tried her best to give a the style and look I went for. I’d def go back there again!
I don't know who these people are who are giving 5 Star reviews but this place is horrible. I went there twice, both times to put braids in my hair. The last time I went, I was there at least 10 hours. I got there early when they opened and didn't leave until just before they closed. What they do is they start doing your hair and then they stop, make you sit down and then they start working on someone else's hair. So you're kind of at their mercy until they feel like coming back to you because you don't want to walk out with half done hair. After that last time I decided never to go back and I haven't. In fact BET is the reason I stopped putting extensions in my hair because it's ridiculous that you have to spend that amount of money and sit in someone's chair for hours on end. The place was not the cleanest, at least it wasn't when I went there. The people are not the friendliest. Another reason why I decided to not go to these salons to get extensions in my hair is several reports that I read about/saw about African Hair Braiding salons and a lot of them are involved in some kind of slave labor, meaning that the girls don't get paid the full amount and they're just in servitude. The report applied to a lot of salons in New York City but it made me think twice about going to any of the salons. I don't know if this applies to BET Salon or not but I decided overall just to take care of the hair that I have and not worry about fancy extensions, etc. And for the record, anytime I talk to a woman about hair salons and mention BET they always, without exception, roll their eyes and have nothing good to say about the place.
