Had a horrible experience. Hated the 2 years I spent at the school from 2014-2016. The food was horrible and the students where very close minded. Also because it was previously a school for boys, very few girls attended the school. In addition they would claim they are very culturally diverse if they had one student from a different country but the school was filled with mostly British people.
I attended Bethany School between 2008-2014 and boarded for three years in the middle. My experience was of incredibly supportive and encouraging staff that took time to get to know the students and actively promote individuality. I was very lucky to have had the opportunity to go to Bethany and the staff and experience has shaped who I am today. The school also has fantastic facilities and is situated in possibly the best place to grow up.
i went to bethany house school back in the 1960's, the headmaster was called pengelly, an old testament preacher, he had a love of english language and i see he is buried forward of the chapel that we were obliged to attend twice on sundays. passing by the school recently i thought it looked bleak, is there any chance of replacing the oak tree that was such a feature and included on the school badge at the time please?
I was at Bethany school from 2008-2011 after leaving a local secondary. I then, after my GSCEs, left to go to Bennett Memorial in Tunbridge Wells. After my time in education I can say that across all 5 schools I went to, Bethany was the most enjoyable to be at. I made friends for life and got the best grades I had ever achieved thanks to the dedicated support from the teachers. The mix of sports and science lessons was my personal favourite, and at 25 now I can safely say I miss the opportunity we had to run around and be creative in all parts of the day. I think I came out of the school much more well rounded having found ‘my people’, and much more confident in myself after having come from a very competitive secondary. Couldn’t recommend it higher!
I attended Bethany from 2008 - 2014 approximately, and have to say I couldn't have found a better school if I tried. Attached is a photo from our prefect training when i was in six form, as you can see we are all in high ropes gear because not only does the school have the "regular" facilities you'd expect learning classrooms, outdoor pool, break areas, sports facilities, on site gym etc etc etc but it also has a high ropes course!! - This place respects each person as an individual, not as a collective, which helps each person shine in their own respect both inside and outside of the classroom. If you want to talk future prospects, i can tell you from my year alone at least 4 of the people i keep in regular contact with have gone on to start succesful businesses. 1 that i know of has the highest level of security clearance in the land mentioning no names and many more have gone on to do increadible things. This school was one of the best times of my life and it was amazing how many people who attended my wedding, i had met at Bethany. If you are considering a school for your year 7 or 9 or any age child, Bethany is honestly the one you should pick. you might be looking at other names that rhyme with Rutton Mallence, Pumbridge etc, but i have not had a single peer whom i have ever spoken to from those schools that would recommend them as highly as my friends and I recommend Bethany. The Headmaster Mr. Healy is always an ear to listen and a guidance to any new pupil who is looking to find themselves at the school, and he is assisted by the best teachers in the industry. "Bethany" is ancient greek likely of Hebrew descent meaning House of Welcome. The name chosen could not reflect the school more truly... all are welcome, all are respected and all are nurtured here... I wish you and your child the happiest of times at my old school... look after her!!!
I started working at Bethany School in September 2014, and have to say that I really love it. I cannot speak from the point of view of a pupil, but as a non-teaching member of staff I have been treated very kindly and offered help and assistance wherever needed. The site itself is beautiful with sweeping rural views, there are exceptional facilities far better than anything my school could have hoped for! and the food is fantastic. If you're considering Bethany School for your children, I absolutely recommend coming to see it first-hand and stay for lunch!.
I left after 7 years at Bethany having achieved a lot more than I thought I ever would. There is more to Bethany than exam results; the extra-curricular opportunities the school offers are also brilliant. The facilities are great and are always improving, the staff are always more than willing to help, and the care and attention you get as an individual is outstanding.
I had children at Bethany School from 2002 - 2014. It was absolutely the right school for them and they left as young, well rounded, educated adults to start the next stage of their lives. The school facilities were improved considerably during this time. The staff are supportive and have the pupils best interests at heart. Outside the classroom an example of committment is during extra curricular activities such as Duke of Edinburgh Award weekends where they give up their free time. Throughout 6th Form, staff are alongside pupils all the way. I wouldn't hesitate recommending Bethany. Mr Healy is a great ambassador for the school and always had his door open if needed. ...nothing can be perfect..... food has room for improvement!!
My husband went to this school in the early 80s and said that it was the best preparation for life in prison you could wish for, should you have been in the unfortunate position of falling foul of the law. He hated the place and says it has left it's mark on his life and is an experience he will take with him to the grave. It is interesting that the food is little improved judging by the recent reviews posted.
The education is good but every thing else is poor. I was always depressed and got in trouble for small stuff. My friends, Mr Khan and Mr Hamilton were people who cheered me up most times. I was always hungry. There were many times I had stuff to do at lunch which would make me late for lunch. I would come to the dinning hall with 10 mins of lunchtime left and the food staff won’t give me food. Most times there would be a lot of left overs left but they’d rather throw it away and make me starve the whole day than give me late leftovers.
