Our goal at the Bethel University Art Department is to guide young artists towards personal lifelong self-exploration through visual media.
Based on the most recent archeological evidence, historians have concluded that human beings began creating art at least 75,000 years ago. Art, therefore, is a uniquely human endeavor, deeply ingrained in all facets of human existence. Bethel University’s Art Department encourages students to participate in—and contribute to—this enduring history of personal expression through visual media. The goal of the curriculum is to develop the student's abilities to create, understand, and appreciate art. This involves producing works of art as well as gaining knowledge of the theories and historical contexts of art. Our program is designed to help students develop the appropriate technical skills, problem-solving skills, work ethic, visual language, conceptual maturity, and professional know-how to confidently enter the art world when they leave Bethel Univeristy.
One of our goals in the Bethel University Art Department is to guide young artists towards personal lifelong self-exploration. Learning and gaining an understanding of one’s own ever-changing values, interests, and personal aesthetic and searching for methods of communicating them to others are essential components of the artistic process. Therefore, we promote experimentation, study, soul-searching, and a multidisciplinary approach to art that is designed to assist students who stand at the beginning of this journey of self-discovery.
