I was in this hospital for 4 months. The level of care was excellent! I received physical therapy, occupational therapy, and recreational therapy while in their care. The recreational therapy employees are terrific and it really helps the time go by. The gardens are amazingly beautiful. I can't say enough about the aides and how caring they were. My only complaint would be the food. The menu never changes and the food isn't very tasty plus my order was regularly wrong. I had to order out just to catch a break from the bad food.
For over 150 years nuns were able to keep St. Joseph’s Hospital open, thriving and vibrant. It’s where I was born. It’s where my aunt was born. It was a vital contributor to a robust downtown. And, in 5 short years James Hereford - Fairview CEO - made it into a disgusting and pointless wasteland. Here’s some photos of the courtyard patio that I took today.
I was at Bethesda because I had Covid. The nursing staff was very caring, kind, gentle, knowledgeable. One nurse went to bat for me when something that was supposed to happen didn't, and she made sure to handle it. Another nurse washed my hair for me & provided what I needed to bathe. I had a plasma transfusion when I was there: one nurse stayed when I asked him to, because I was scared. The care was excellent! Food unhealthy & inedible, in my opinion.
My father was here for 2 months on the ventilator rehab unit. Dad would sit for 5 hours without anyone checking on him to reposition and change him when we were there. This is required by state to be completed every 2 hours for patients that cannot do it for themselves. My sisters and I all work in healthcare in either social work, RN or radiology in hospitals. My mother was there all day every day, and she also would have to find someone to change and reposition him. Some staff were genuine and caring, but just as many were not. Dad would also have scrapes and bumps on his head and face that could not be explained by the nurse, so injury reports were filed after my mom questioned them. He also had an MRI of his head scheduled, and after they transferred him, found out he didn't have it scheduled. Our Dad seemed to give up and no longer tried to communicate with us. What a drop in care when transferred from a Mayo facility...I would not recommend. We were relieved the day we moved him closer to home to a nursing home that had great caring staff.
My 51 year old brother had a long & complicated situation that required lengthy stays at Bethesda & periodic trips to the hospital. Our family can't say enough positive about the overall care given to him at Bethesda. Great team of health care professionals on all levels. They also didn't mind our frequent family support & visits nor our input & many questions. Thank you for all you did to help him now be able to go to the next level of transitional care. We appreciate it!
My father in law was at Bethesda for several weeks. His care was exceptional! The staff was caring and kind. They helped us through a very difficult time. Instead of restraining him they had someone sit by his bed 2 4hrs a day. My father in law passed away and I am so glad we know he was cared for and respected on his final days. Thanks Bethesda!
I'm writing this on my mom's account since she's being hospitalized right now. This is probably the worst hospital we ever went to. My mom was in pain in the stomach and it took them at least 10 minutes to respond asking "how can I help you?". We asked for pain reliever pill and we've been waiting for more than 30 minutes, still no presence. My mom tried to endure the pain through time and finally she got the pill.. it took more than an hour just to get a single pill. I also hated the fact that they're slow and not really responsive, claiming they're "busy". The only good part is the therapy, nothing else. I wouldn't reccomend this hospital to your love ones. It's hard watching your love ones suffers.
My dad was sent to Bethesda from Regions Hospital for after care and therapy. I saw my dad the day after he arrived at Bethesda, his health was down from when he was as Regions. They had him on a 24hr BiPap system, Region had gotten him off of that. He was no longer responsive. 2 Days later my sister went to see him and found his blood pressure was to high, no one had given him his blood pressure medications that day. During her visit she became aware that he had soiled himself. She requested aid 3 times and no one ever came to clean him up. That was over a 2 hour period. He not getting the simple therapy he need just to get off of the BiPap. The family mounted up and force Bethesda to return him to a real hospital before it was to late and he would never recover. Do not bring your family or loved ones to this place, the care they provide is below standards.
Please do not bring your love ones to this hospital. The level of care is horrible and a lot of the staff are rude. Average waiting time when calling the nurse is 10-15 minutes. They are not staff appropriately as that is their constant excuses. They claim to specialize in respiratory care but assign multiple floors to only one respiratory therapist. I can't count how many accidents almost happen if it wasn't for one of the family member being their 24/7. I feel bad for the patients that does not have family member to be their advocate. Please DO NOT put your love ones in this hospital. The only thing that is good here is the therapy team. One more thing, they will encourage patients and their family members to reach out to their inhouse advocacy team which is a load of bull if you believe they would help. They are inhouse hired employees to "pretend to side with you". Get out of here!!!
Our experience at Bethesda Hospital was largely positive. While my husband was a patient there for just under two months, I found the nurses, aides, and therapists to be extremely pleasant, caring, and helpful.
