Very nice park, love how it feels like I'm not in the city when I walk in. The trees are so big that it blocks out the city view when you're inside. There's also a information panel on tree planting that was very cool. The top has a small lawn area that you can picnic and spot the golden gate bridge from.
Buena Vista is a beautiful park with a ton of awe inspiring Vista Points. The best are at the top, if your down for hiking the hill that is. It is by far, one of San Francisco's best hiking parks. You could decide to go all the way to the top, every day, and never take the same path. So many options to choose from when deciding which path to take. Average Time to the Peak: Approximately 25 - 30 minute at a leisurely pace. Playground: There is a small kids playground located on the Western Entrance of Buena Vista Park at Waller Street. Nothing to get too excited over, but it does exist, and would keep small children sufficed for a moment and it is gated. Dog-friendliness: You will pass many dog walkers and get to meet all the 4 legged friends. The locals and their dog walkers use this park on the daily to get their Mutt's the exercise they need and deserve.
It was our first time at Buena Vista Park and we thoroughly enjoyed it - it was a bit of a trek to get here but the views and the park did not disappoint. We had great views of Downtown as well as the Golden Gate Bridge! The park is huge and has lots of walkways and stairs so we didn’t bump into anyone. Definitely a reprieve from the city - will be back again!
San Francisco is such a beautiful city but it also has it's ugly parts like most large cities. Look past the bad and you will see all that is good in this place. The people, the homes, the history is all fabulous. However finding a place to park... forget about it. WALK
I believe the main reason people visit Buena Vista Park is to see the painted ladies. The row of Victorian homes shown at the beginning of the 80s tv show Full House. The spot where the Tanner family was sitting is normally the busiest part of the park. But after you take your pictures there, take some time to walk around. On a sunny day to can see some amazing views of the city, and see a lot of the big churches around the city.
This is good park for local people to hike. It is quite, not crowded. The trails are all paved. The hill is quite steep. Not recommend for tourists since the city view is not great. Big trees block the view.
Enjoy great views of the city, the bridge and mother nature as your surrounded by wild life such as squirrels, raccoons, blue jays, coyotes and raccoons. Feel free, be free up top of a beautiful mountain where the view is good called the The Good View. Buena Vista park, San Franciscos best kept secret.
Amazing Park if you enjoy finding your own little space to sweet up and journal or sketch. There are tennis courts and a playground closer to Haight and the further south uphill you go the more secluded you can feel especially if you take the smaller dirt paths, not the paved ones.
This park is an uphill climb and a solid workout for me which is why I try to do it once a week. A little slice of paradise in a Mellow and historic neighborhood. I love the old gravestones used to embellish the paths. Once saw a hawk chase a squirrel around a tree maybe 20 feet from me. Lots of jays and hummingbirds too. Feels like a well-kept secret.
Nice views, peaceful and really easy hike. Plenty of space to keep away from others and walk your dog in peace. I appreciate all the nooks and off beaten path shortcuts to get around.
