Originally constructed around 1930 as the "Birdie Hotel" to provide lodging for travelers that made the long trip from the "flat lands" of Southern California to enjoy the beauty and recreational activities of the Big Bear Valley and the azure blue waters of Big Bear Lake. Big Bear Sporting Goods has since become the outdoor enthusiast's premiere source for fishing bait and tackle, camping gear, Hobie kayaks and a large selection of footwear and apparel for all seasons.

Great local store.  My son and I had never fished the lake before.  Went in, talked to Billy.  Billy hooked us up with what we needed and gave us info on where and how to fish.  Limits of trout in two hours.  Had a great time on the lake with my family.  This is a great little local store.  Support them.  Thanks Billy.

One of the best fresh water fishing stores we've been in and the staff is beyond helpful. They have every kind of power bait imaginable at really reasonable prices. They have you covered on tackle. We were there for fishing supplies but I also noticed a nice selection of hiking gear/supplies. A definite recommendation and will be back!

Billy and Patrick were some of the most knowledgeable and accommodating guys I’ve met. Thanks to their help my wife and I caught bountiful fish and had an overall great time at Big Bear Lake. Be sure to check this shop out when you’re on the mountain!

Don’t hesitate going anywhere else but here if you’re in or near Great Bear Lake.  The owners are not only the most knowledgeable around, but they will spend all the time you need or want patiently answering all your questions, as well as providing the most helpful tips. It’s rare to find such wonderful business owners.  The quality of their gear—whether it’s to buy professional sporting goods, or just rent basic fishing gear & bait—was excellent.  Highly recommend Big Bear Sporting Goods!

Very nice and helpful staff. You can find anything for fishing and more. They will set everything up for you when you buy fishing pole if you have no experience

Hikers and PCT thru hikers: this is an awesome place to shop for gear and food! They have an enormous wall of Darn Toughs and Injinjis, fuel, trekking poles, and more. They also have a bathroom where they let us top up some water before hitting the trail. Thanks to the amazing staff who work at Big Bear sporting goods!

Good place to stock up on gear before hitting the lake. The clerks were very helpful and knowledgeable about the stockings and the best places for certain species.

Great place to get everything you need for a day of fishing at Big Bear Lake. The employee was very helpful, telling me about the fish in season at that time, what bait to use, and how the fishing licenses work. Check it out!

Staff is very helpful and friendly. They carry just about everything you need to fish the lake.

I went to this place and when I walked in the man working was talking to someone in the store and never acknowledged my presence. Parking was a little scary but the store is definitely all about fishing but if you need help it may perturb the worker as he didn't seem to care that I was there and could have used some help. I didn't get it so I left and went to Big 5.
