The Big Bear Lake Time Trial is known as an international, Tour de France-style bicycle road race featuring elite professional cycling teams from around the world. The 2017 race will mark the first year the men's race has been elevated to UCI WorldTour status, making it the only stage race in North America to receive this prestigious classification.

This event is free for spectators. The race features an unprecedented lineup of top international cycling teams, with 11 WorldTour teams containing some of the world’s most decorated cyclists. Three Pro Continental and two Continental teams round out the event.

As in 2016, the Amgen Breakaway from Heart DiseaseTM Women’s Race empowered with SRAM is part of the UCI Women’s WorldTour. This year’s race will include 16 star-studded teams, half of which are U.S.-based.

Scheduled over seven consecutive days from May 14-20, Stage 6 or the “Big Bear Time Trial”, takes place Friday, May 19. The Big Bear Time Trial will offer the most accessible place to watch a mountain start and finish on the entire tour.

Other cities to host the Tour’s 1,000-person entourage include South Lake Tahoe to begin the Women’s race, then over to Sacramento where the men begin. The race winds south to the coast at Pismo Beach and Santa Barbara, winding to an end in Pasadena.

The Amgen Tour of California continues to set attendance records, as the largest cycling event in the United States. Not only was the 2016 route lined with millions of fans, it also received an international television audience of 11.3 million fans, via 24 media partners including NBC. The race was viewed on the Internet in 200 countries and 22 languages. Fans watched 181,836 hours on mobile devices.

In its 12th anniversary year, the Amgen Tour of California promotes tourism on an international level and puts Big Bear Lake on the world stage.
