"Big Creek State Park and the adjoining public hunting areas provide recreation for visitors of all ages and interests. The focal point of the 3,550-acre complex is the lake. The 860-acre lake has many fishing jetties and access areas, and auniversally accessible fishing pier. Five boat ramps are located around the lake for convenient lake access.The Big Creek beach area provides 1,300 feet of swimming opportunity, with a large playground, volleyball court, open areas, 22 shelter and picnic sites, and beach cabanas. We stopped at the fishing dock just before the marina. Beautiful space! Well maintained and handicap accessible.

Great place to sit and enjoy a spring afternoon. Beach has a lot of nice amenities. Awesome playground for the kids and plenty of room on the beach to have some space and avoid crowding. Nice cabana/shelters around the edge of the beach make nice places to stop and take a rest after riding the bike trail. Also a great place for fishing. I have pulled many a nice size fish from the lake.

Great place for grilling, they have plenty of spots and shelters scattered around the lake. Has a nice trail on the north side of the lake that runs along the lake to the beach. There is a large wooden playground right by the beach. There is also a marina where you can rent pantoon boats, kayak and canoes. They used to rent out small fishing boats as well. Really nice lake and park overall, we frequent it often.

So many wildflowers! Beautiful views of the lake and a nice paved walking/biking trail. Lots of places to get close to the water along the trail. Tons of picnic tables. Disc golf course. Big wooden playground. I appreciate the foot wash at the beach to clean off sand.

Great way to spend your time if you like water spaces. The kayaking, boating etc., services are really great and the staff a bunch of really nice peo people. The services are affordable and are really food experiences. Though I'd suggest you not to visit this place late summer as the Water starts to get stagnant and starts to stink in the boating section since it's a smaller lake, inspite of the beach section being ok. Its not the cleanest of water but worth a visit.

Big Creek has a great paved trail that is about 3 miles long, and it leads to the rest of the 26 mile long Neil Smith Trail thats leads through Saylorville Lake, and through Des Moines. There's plenty to do at Big Creek: hiking, swimming, fishing, volleyball, cookout, etc.

Nice state park, convenient to Des Moines. Has a beach and marina. Great walking and biking trail. Many picnic areas with nice views of the lake.
