What a hidden gem in McKinney! This place is truly unbelievable. Extremely friendly staff, nice homey feel inside. And the food is outstanding! I had the chicken fried steak special which was super reasonably priced – it was probably the best chicken fried steak I’ve ever had in my life and I’ve had a lot of chicken fried steaks! I highly recommend you come and try this restaurant. It truly is my on my favorite list!
The food was good, but for our party of 5, it arrived one or two at a time, with several minutes from the 1st dish to the last. Service was good, overall atmosphere was good and unique. Staff was outgoing and friendly. Notice the sign under the helmets not our table.Dine in: Yes
The Place to stop in for Real Home Cooking ‼ The "Everthing Omlete " Just perfect. All order are cook , fresh. Nothing Frozen. Amazing Staff ‼ . One of A Kind America little place. Thanks
Update: Bill Smith's Cafe is closing, and this is the last weekend. Stop by tomorrow until 2 p.m.!! Going to miss this McKinney staple! Bill Smith's Cafe has been in McKinney for decades!! Great breakfast and lunch specials, good people and service, and delicious home cooking all the way around! I grew up going here with my family as a kid, we all did, and still love it. If you haven't tried this Cafe, make it your next stop. You won't be disappointed !!!
My family and I stopped in for lunch today. Cafe is clean and staff was friendly. We ate the lunch specials and both came out hot and fresh. Our waitress was slow, but friendly. The wall decor goes back years, and mice to look at. Prices are reasonable for the lunches. Will return and eat lunch again, and hope to get a different waitress. I recommend anyone that wants a good home cooked lunch to stop and order one of their many options for lunch specials. $6.50 for meat and three vegetables on rolls or cornbread.
Bill’s is a solid location for a hearty breakfast! It’s got thick sliced bacon and most of dishes are served with fresh baked biscuits and gravy! It’s got that old diner smell and feel and the staff is an established, but friendly bunch. I often see local law enforcement dining there, so it’s a good value! There’s also an ATM on site in case you forget to bring cash!
Food was great, interior was pleasant and staff were the same good old fashioned service that's hard to find. It's nice to be called sweetie when someone is asking to get you something, makes you feel pampered. I had the chicken fried steak, fried mushrooms and cabbage. The steak was great and finally someone gives me enough gravy to enjoy a chicken fried steak properly, thank you. The fried mushrooms were wonderful, you could tell it was straight up fried mushrooms without all the processed salty garbage. The boiled cabbage...oh yes... would you like some cabbage with your bacon? Finally someone does cabbage right. I ordered the catfish to go and that was very tender even after being reheated at home. I attended with my brother for a special treat being my first and last meal at this hidden gem of a restaurant, thank you! I'll have a great memory for years to come while I'm in Australia. About the lion picture, he died of natural causes and was sold at an auction to raise funding for the zoo. He will soon go to a school for the McKinney lions as a representation of their mascot.
Had a great breakfast time with my wife the food was great and the service was amazing our waitress "judy" was great she made sure our drinks were filled without asking and her wonderful spirit was a joy..i will be going back because of the food but also the great service that me and my wife received
Blueberry pancakes had a nice crisp edge, and plenty of blueberries. Black coffee was slightly sweet. Our server was nice and good-humored, matching the banter that was happening between all the clientele and staff. Fun place you can feel safe to being your family to.
If you're like my family, fond of good ol' traditional mom & pop type restaurants w/good home-cooked food, the older generation come for their coffee, & the waitresses know their usuals, where the locals have been eating for yrs & thru the generations bc the food is always great, the atmosphere is warm /welcoming & everyone's like family then you should def give Bill Smith Cafe a try. The biscuits are yummy w/a light & airy texture, hamburger steak was perfect & juicy, quesadillas were a hit w/my daughter & you must try the "home fries"- they were the best I've ever eaten! Oh & good ol' Sweet Tea.. But be prepared & take cash bc they don't accept debit/credit cards, which I wasn't aware of until I tried to pay & of course had No Cash...thank goodness I had my checkbook which I hardly use these days but I have to say its kinda refreshing to see a business w/traditional practices now & then. It reminds me of simpler times eww that dates me doesn't it, oh well
