Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School

Description

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School is a private high school located in northern Pasco County, not far from Spring Hill, in the Diocese of St. Petersburg.General InformationBishop McLaughlin Catholic High School was established in 2003. It is named after Charles Borromeo McLaughlin, the first Bishop of the Diocese of St. Petersburg. An avid pilot, Bishop McLaughlin would meet the pastoral demands of a large diocese by flying from event to event in order to keep pace with his schedule. This fast-paced ministry affectionately earned him the nickname of "Hurricane Charlie." Therefore, BMCHS is the home of the "Hurricanes." The school's mascot is "Peli-cane" (a pelican donning a Hurricanes team jersey). The school's inaugural principal was Jane Moerschbacher, who held the position until she retired in 2007. The school's current principal is Camille Jowanna, who, as a 7th grader, received the Sacrament of Confirmation from the school's namesake, Bishop McLaughlin.Bishop McLaughln Catholic High School is ranked as the 7th Best Catholic High School in the state of Florida for 2017, as rated by NICHE. BMCHS is experiencing continued growth and is known for its high academic standards, use of technology in the classroom, growing sports program and fine arts program. The school's mission statement is: "Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School provides a Christ-centered education that nurtures the development of the whole person and prepares young men and women as leaders to meet successfully the challenges of our global society."BMCHS offers various forms of financial assistance, such as variable rate tuition. Assistance is also available from the Diocese of St. Petersburg, the Mary C. Forbes Foundation, the Catholic Foundation, Step Up for Students and the McKay Scholarship.

My son is a senior and has spent the past four years at Bishop. This smaller school afforded him small class sizes with teachers that truly care, extra help whenever needed, and the ability to play on sports teams even though he didn't have much prior experience. The school culture is unmatched. It is a Christ centered family. I would highly recommend this school to anyone who wants a safe, nurturing, religious, and high achieving academic school. I know he made life long relationships that he will treasure for the rest of his life. God Bless this school, their faculty, and their students.
My daughter is a freshman at Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School and has loved it from the first day. She never wants to leave the campus and the friends she has made have become like family to her. As parents we can see how much the school pushes her to be her best and she constantly strives to meet the challenges. She definitely would not be reaching her highest potential at any other school.
Bishop McLauglin is an amazing school! We have had a wonderful experience here, from the class sizes to the academics to the clubs and the christian values/atmosphere. It is a great alternative to some of the much larger schools in the area - not too big but also not too small. We would highly recommend this school!
Fantastic School! The faculty and staff go above and beyond to help each students. My daughter is graduating this year and she has been blessed to be a part of Bishop McLaughlin. Thank you for giving my daughter her best High School year.
As a parent of students that are attending and have graduated from BMCHS, let the records speak for themselves. Look at the number of graduates going on to college as well as the number of scholarships awarded to the graduates. That should speak volumes about the academics, teachers, and the curriculum at the school. Is the school perfect in everything? - No! But what school is! Bishop McLaughlin H.S. provides a safe, disciplined, and structured environment design to nurture both the physical and educational growth of their students. Again, look at the numbers and the Universities its graduates go on to. Students are not just a number; the teachers know the students by name and take an interest in their development if the student is willing.
I don't know how long ago your experience was, but that is not the Bishop McLaughlin that I have experienced- graduation 100% and college acceptance rates 95% way above the state average 78% grad for public schools. High AP, SAT, and ACT scores, innovative STREAM program that just won NCEA national award for innovation in technology education. 1:1 computers for the students, and ranked #7 in the state for Catholic high schools. Good sports programs, too. The BMCHS Baseball team just went to the state semi-finals. Oh and the tuition is not 15k, either. It starts at 12,500 and is on a sliding scale. The lowest tier is only $7500 which is less than some private elementary schools. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM.
I went there for two years and those two years were terrible. Most of the teachers were very unprofessional to a point where one actually cried in our class. The teaching and curriculum was terrible, the kids were terrible. If you want a bunch of white snobby rich kids addicted to drugs and get whatever they want, this school is for you. When I moved to public school, the teaching was so much better and challenging. Going to this school will be a big mistake that will affect your child, your relationship with your child, and your family. $15,000 a year is not worth it. Put your child in a public school, save 15 grand, educate your child, and keep them away from children like the one's that go to this so called "school". The principle never even attended school and always seemed to be absent until senior graduation. It's a small school with few students, which makes it a bad place. If your kid is not perfect or extremely rich, they will most likely be picked on. Whereas in public schools, there are so many kids, no one tends to pick on others. THINK AGAIN BEFORE ENROLLING YOUR KID IN THIS SCHOOL.
This is my first year at Bishop, my sister also went there. They’ve been so amazing, the teachers and faculty are great.
This is truly a wonderful school. Great academics, brilliant staff, and a positive environment for all.
Very supportive teachers and administration. They go the extra mile to help your child succeed.
