I've been a BJs customer for over 10 years now, for the last few years with a premium membership. I used to like the wide variety of organic and healthy products they used to carry. Lately, it's been going down the hill and I wonder more and more if I should stop the membership. Not sure if it's related to maximizing profit for investors since it became a public company. Lots of organic frozen veggies are not carried anymore, and the fresh produce at this Portsmouth location is just deplorable. I complained more than once about their over-expired watermelons and honeydews, with no success. Last visit triggered this review: when I tried the freshness of a watermelon and my finger just went through the bloated skin into a bath of stinky juice inside. About five days beforehand we went to get a melon and they were all soft and expired, and complained about it. They just left the same decomposing watermelons on the shelf. Unbelievable!
Mike in the bakery here is on point with his cake decorating! We saw the two tiered fall cake pictured here a month ago and tried to get something similar at a different BJ’s location, closer to the upcoming baby shower, with zero success they’ll get their own nasty review for that experience believe me. Suffice it to say, we drove all the way down to Portsmouth, from Ossipee, just for this cake and it was worth the trip! Mike created an awesome sheet cake for the party also pictured that was only $49.99. I tried to tip him but he had to politely refuse because of their store policy. He was super nice and accommodating to my wife’s requests and really seems to enjoy his line of work and takes pride in it. Very much appreciated!
BJ's has the best prices for buying in bulk. They have everything we need and some awesome unique choices of items we love to try out. Sales and coupons save us a lot of money and we always get their much lower priced gas on our way out, of course.
Great BJs love their curbside pickup and mobile app. Gas station also convenient with good prices for members.
Good selection of goods, big packages which some people prefer. Monthly sale coupons. Usually bulk stuff are cheaper than other stores, but sometimes not. Also Gass station is cheaper than others. With BJ's credit card you'll get additional 10¢ off.
Getting gas there is the worst consumer experience. Wait in line to save .20. Everyone there is from Mass and Maine and too cheap to buy gas in there own state. Makes sense to drive to save gas?! Impatient and incompetent elderly all over there. The 'extra long' hoses don't work and the nozzle itself was dripping gas so when I pulled it over my car, it dropped onto my paint and of course, my skin. Uh won't be back. Mobil, or anywhere on gasoline alley is far better.
This is an older warehouse store and it feels like it. It’s located on a very busy strip mall area just outside of downtown Portsmouth which is down the street a few miles away. Decent & relatively affordable prices but nothing special. Wellesley Farms & Jensen Clothing are BJs private label brand. Selection is decent, prices relatively affordable and are somewhat different than those found in Costco. Better quality foods, better selection of items are found at Costcos but the only one in NH is in Nashua. Sadly, the place is rarely ever packed with people, regardless of the time I'm here, afternoon/night, weekday/weekend. There is a gas station on the right side when you enter down the street into BJs and the prices are reasonable for regular or premium gas types as there is no mid-grade gas, similar to Costco gas stations. Missing is an air pump for tires. Gas prices are slightly higher than at the newer Seabrook location. The lower gas prices & rotisserie chicken makes up the membership fee, which is discounted online so you don’t have to pay full price.
I only stopped here for gas but what a disaster! I don’t know if it was just extra busy when I was there or not but getting in and out of the gas stations is a headache, it takes forever! The set up is awful and there is not enough room for the amount of vehicles there. Everyone was very impatient and I can see why. To save a few extra cents, it wasn’t worth it.
Tried to get gas. Pulled up to the available pump and it wouldn't reach my car. Extra long hoses my pants. The person working the pump was super snarky as well about it. I assure you, moving my a foot closer would not give me the extra 4ft of hose I needed to actually reach my gas door.
Weird entrance, no cafe. Friendly staff well stocked and clean
