Very pretty park but the trail map is a little off I feel from the marked trails. My fiance and I anticipated taking the purple trail onto the green trail to make a loop up and around but even following a map, and using google Maps wasn't quite enough to navigate form one to the other.
Clean park, bring in/ bring out, seasonal bathrooms, has a nice rentable lodge - out door bathrooms always open, nice play ground, huge sledding hill, lots of trails, deer that are some how not afraid of you .
Paradise meets public park. Fish in a pond, hike miles of clearly marked trails, bird watch, sledding, picnicking, shelter rentals, horse back riding, but no golfing.
This is a great place to visit year round. During the warmer months there is plenty of hiking and a playground for families with smaller children. Once snow hits the ground there are plenty of paths to cross country ski and a nice sledding hill. It is free to enter and use the park during the day.
There's a ton of parks in and around Rochester but very few compare to Black Creek. Literally dozens of trails spanning miles upon miles of fields, woods, wetlands and recreation areas. Numerous shelters available for rent, a large pond, playground and the most killer sledding hill you've ever laid eyes on all reside here besides the tons of wildlife one would expect. Honestly, in my eyes, this park is 5 stars but I deducted one because bikes aren't allowed on trails. With so much to explore, a bike sure would come in handy. Either way, a great source of nature, exercise and yes, bug bites... So load up on Deet and get adventuring!!
We usually love coming to this park. However today I was spoken to more like yelled at by a park ranger. I’m 6 months pregnant and really needed to use the rest room. I saw a sign saying there was a bathroom in the lodge, so I hurried up that way to find it. There were people bringing things in for a party I guess. I asked one of them where the bathroom was and she said inside she thought. So I went inside. After I left the building a park ranger yelled at me and told me that was a private party. So I explained how the signs said the bathroom was in the lodge. “Towards the back of the building!” He said impatiently. I told him I asked several people and no one knew where it was except for the lady who said inside. He then said,VERY rudely, “Well for future reference, you can’t use the bathrooms inside the building.” I then said, “There should have been a sign then.” I understand that I’m the one who walked into a party, but first of all, I did try to find the correct bathroom, and second of all, there is a kind way to let someone know not to do something. Being scolded by a part ranger for an honest mistake is unacceptable. And third of all, clearly mark where to go for the restrooms, because it was unclear. I suggest teaching your park ranger show to deal with people kindly because I was close to tears after being spoken to so rudely. This is unacceptable
To sit by the Black Creek Park pond and just enjoy the view is how I invision paradise to be like... i love this park! Lovely trails, well maintained playground and a nice sledding mountain as well as cool spots to go fishing pond and river are some of the nice things about this gem.
Once a working farm and the southwest corner a working orchard and tree farm is now a very large county park. Well maintained trails that are marked but bring a map too. It contains a variety of land types from wetland to meadows to mature forests. The large pond has some small fish and the lodges can be rented for functions. In the winter it is a well known sledding hot spot. It has two entrances one on Union St and one on Green Road. A large variety of flora and fauna exist, so bring your camera. The Green road side has a place to park trailers to go horseback riding. When venturing out, be aware of sunset as people do get lost at night.
Great Scenery and Trails. Went there a couple years back and enjoyed it! Will visit again. Only one problem: The Bees. There are many Bees along the trail in summer so I suggest you walk the trail in late spring or mid fall where there aren't as many bees. Overall Great experience
Tough to follow the trails if you've never been there. Beautiful park though.
