About

site-responsive installations, performances

Description

Black & White Project Space is a dynamic platform supporting creative ideas by enabling emerging artists to experiment and expand their practice.

In April of 2013 in response to current business conditions and the state of the arts, Black & White Gallery/Project Space announced the closing of its Brooklyn (Williamsburg) location. The Gallery will continue its activity under a new business model through its non-profit arm – Black & White Project Space (tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code).

The non-profit Black & White Project Space was established in 2008 to support local artists working in the field of site-specific installations through the Exhibition and Artist-in-Residency programs.

Black & White Project Space will continue its support of diverse creative ideas in the increasingly cross-cultural environment. Our new focus will be on providing financial resources to emerging international artists and on preserving their artistic legacy.

To carry out the new mission, Black & White Project Space will establish the Black & White Fund. It is NOT an investment fund. The purpose of the Fund is two-fold: to support living, practicing artists by acquiring their work through the Fund’s Acquisition Program, and to encourage museums and other public collecting institutions across the globe to accept the acquired works as gifts through the Fund’s Museum Gift Program.

Acquisition funding will be achieved through grants, direct donations and Charitable Sales campaigns conducted by Black & White Gallery/Project Space at art fairs and other venues. To further fuel the Fund’s financial resources, Black & White Project Space will offer its services as a fiscal sponsor to new charitable art-related and environmental initiatives not associated with Black & White Project Space.
