About

blacksheep, Wakefield Quebec, live music venue

Description

We are a tavern by day and a juke joint cabaret by night, located in Wakefield Quebec (around 22 minutes from Ottawa - Canada's Capital city).
2018 marks our 24th year as a music venue, although we started as a logger's tavern and roadhouse back in 1928.

We love and promote local and Canadian music and are lucky enough to get some of the best of the best. Shows are typically run on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, starting at 8:30PM. Sunday matinees start at 4:00PM and are all ages!

Some seating is available however for busy shows, it is mostly standing. We are a club venue, designed to house a mix of seating, standing, wandering around and dancing.

For more information, be sure to check our website!

*We are proudly a workingman's jukejoint tavern. We are in a small Quebec village, north of Gatineau. Please do not expect a quaint inn, bistro, theatre, or hall. *Be sure to print your ticket or display your proof of purchase on your smartphone and bring it with you - it is your only proof of purchase.

The staff is helpful but could use more help outside. It was a nice day and it was np relaxing in the views. It was worth it when I tasted the poutine. Rich thick and more than enough BEST POUTINE EVER
Interesting venue for events. The bar and food are 2 separate organizations so you have to order separately. Food is pretty decent. I enjoyed the poutine here.
Great venue for live music. Patio is excellent, with a great view of the river. 4 stars because the BBQ they serve needs work.
This was our first visit ever and we were a group of six for lunch. The place was empty which gave us some reservation on how good the food was. Once we placed our order the place filled up quickly. Best burger I've had in a long time and the fries were excellent. You got to try their gravy. I'll be back!
Great little music venue that lives up to its name for quality performances. Unfortunately the beer selection is a bit pedestrian no craft beer on tap, but they do carry two different large format bottles from Beau's and a few Québec breweries worth trying. The loaded pulled pork sandwich is amazing, highly recommended.
If you follow Canadian independent music, you A already know about this place and B have to make the trip up here for a live show. Get there early if you want a place to park. There is municipal parking up the street by the General Store if you miss your window. Drink options are a bit limited but honestly, the draw here is the incredible talent that Paul books. So grab some tickets and settle in for a good show... Or several. This place is an absolute treasure and a Canadian music landmark.
It's a bit of an odd place...i saw some great bands there, but the atmosphere is weird. It's very quiet, everybody sitting, once someone I know got shhh!some old regulars need to relax, it's not the opera! once the show is over the bar is closed and you get out of there, no hanging out here. But good bands play there so it's still a cool place.
Fun atmosphere and unique location. This place is well known for their ribs and as they should be. Ribs were very enjoyable. We also had 2 orders of wings which unfortunately tasted like they had freezer burn. We sat on the patio as it was a nice evening outside. They were quite busy inside as there was a live band playing. Thankfully our server warned us the meal would take 40 minutes due to the number is guests inside. It seemed like the food didn't take the full 40 minutes fortunately. Though once we received our food we never saw our server again until it was time for the bill. Also drinks and food are handled by different servers. The drinks server also checked on us only when we were close to completing our meal. My friend ordered a water at that time which never came out. He asked again with another server which also never was served. When it came time to pay bill my friend left an unacceptably tip which prompted the server to ask what was wrong. He shared her experience which drove the server to become defensive. She insisted that if we brought up our issue with the wings she could have done something for us. Which is fair though she never checked on us after delivering the meal for us to explain that. We tried to have a rational conversation with her about our experience though she seemed too offended and couldn't come to a conclusion. All in all the ribs were wonderful and black sheep is known for them. Regardless of our experience I recommend you try out the place for yourself. It may have just been an off night, maybe they were short handed. Overall of experience wasn't good and the way the server handled her frustrations will prevent me from returning.
Definitely recomend ordering fron here.Such Great food! I tried the fish and chips and it was real good! And the homemade baked beans!! Yyumm. Ray really knows what's up in the kitchen! Will be back in the summer to take in the view out front of the restaurant!
This place has a very retro style with a classic diner feel there's a big emphasis on music. There's a history of many canadian artists getting there start in the diner so if you want a chance to see some rising stars check it out. The food is of good size for the price and tastes pretty good too, not spectacular, but good diner food.
