Blakesburg Public Library is THE place to go for books, movies, audio and e-books, education & research databases, computers, wi-fi, and other services.
The Blakesburg town council voted to sponsor a Library at its regular meeting on November 2, 1936. The library was to be in the basement of the bank building owned by John Huber, with the city furnishing the heat and the lights, along with the rent of $5.00 a month. The first librarian was Zelma Glosser. In May, 1943, the library moved to its second location -- the Fritz Building, which provided a little more space. On March 2, 1981, the library moved into a room in the east end of the new Community Building. That remained the library's home until June of 2006, when it moved into the west end of the community building, taking over the space vacated by the Fire & Rescue Department.
The Library moved into it's latest home (the former Elementary School Building at 407 S. Wilson St.) on June 21, 2014. Plans are in the works to raise funds for a new library to be built in Blakesburg in the next 12-18 months. The new facility should be home to the library for many years to come.
