About eyelash extensions:
Semi permanent Eyelash Extension are individually applied to a single eyelash, resulting in a gorgeous, natural appearance. Synthetic extensions are glued one by one onto the natural lash (not the skin) by using a specially formulated glue. These are not traditional false eyelashes, eyelash flares or implants. Safe and comfortable to wear, eyelash extensions are never applied directly to your skin or eyelid. With routine touchups every two to four weeks, you can have amazing eyelashes indefinitely.
Should I be careful who applies the eyelash extensions and should they be trained?
Absolutely, I cannot stress the importance of choosing an eyelash technician who has been taught by a qualified and experienced person. There are many eyelash extension operators who are claiming to have been professionally trained but have been self taught via the internet. This is disastrous, and can damage your lashes. I have spent up to 4 hours on one client removing improperly applied eyelash extensions. So, Please do your research thoroughly and ask many questions.
How long does the application take?
It generally takes between 120 to 150 minutes to apply a full set of eyelash extensions. Half-set can be done in about 45, and Touch-ups can be done in as little as 45 to 60 minutes. Your first appointment will take slightly longer to assess the desired look you would like.
What do they look like and how do they feel?
With proper application, eyelash extensions look and feel completely real. Each application is customized to suit the individual. I offer three thicknesses of lashes and three different curls with lengths ranging from 5mm to 15mm. Varying individual synthetic lash lengths are chosen to carefully replicate the shape and frame of a natural lash line. The thickness of the eyelash extension applied is determined by the health and thickness of your natural lashes as well as personal preference. The overall effect is added curl, thickness and length, opening up the eye for added definition.
How long do Eyelash Extensions Last?
The look can be maintained indefinitely with refills. When properly applied, an eyelash extension will remain in place until the natural lash on which it rests falls out. This can be as long as two months or more.
Natural eyelashes grow in and fall out in cycles (every 60 to 90 days). When a natural lash matures and falls out, a new lash has already been growing and quickly replaces it without us noticing the turnover. This process is constant and at any given moment our many natural lashes are at different stages of maturity. Some are just growing in, while others are ready to shed. People typically shed between 1 and 5 natural lashes each day, depending on their individual growth cycles. On shorter natural lashes, this growing and shedding cycle is virtually unnoticeable.
When eyelashes are extended with eyelash extensions, it will be more noticeable when these lashes shed because they are longer and darker than natural lashes. Please keep in mind this is a perfectly normal occurrence, with or without extensions. I primarily apply eyelash extensions to those lashes that are in the middle of their maturation cycle to maximize the amount of time they will last, without jeopardizing the health of ‘baby' lashes. The extension will fall out with the natural lash it is attached to when it reaches the end of its growth cycle. A few eyelash extensions may shed within the first week because the attached natural lashes are at the end of their growth cycle. Most will remain in place for approximately two months.
With proper care and maintenance, touch-ups are typically only needed once every 2 to 4 weeks to replace the lashes that have shed.
How do I look after my eyelash extensions?
• For the first 12 hours avoid getting the lashes wet to allow the glue to completely dry
• Do not use a steam room or sauna for the first 48 hours to allow glue to cure
• Be gentle and respect your new lashes. Avoid rubbing your eyes and do not pick and play with your lashes
• Resist the temptation to touch or pull at your stunning new lashes as this will pull out your own natural lashes
• Avoid getting them caught on clothes and towels
• When drying your face do not rub instead blot your face and apply a gently pressure to your closed eyes then allow the extensions to dry naturally. Don't try to dry them with the towel or hair dryer.
• Do not perm or curl the extensions using a clamp eyelash curlers
• Avoid wearing mascara as this will lessen the life of your extensions
• Do not use eye make-up remover that contains any type of oil products such as petroleum
• Do keep the eye area clean. This is very important. Some ladies love their lashes so much they don't even want to get them wet at all. Avoiding proper hygiene can result in an eye infection whether wearing eyelash extensions or not
• Try and sleep on your back to avoid crushing your extensions in the pillow
The golden rule for wearing eyelash extensions is the less you touch them the longer they will last. However, it is important to keep the eye area clean.
