Blossman Gas was created in 1951 to exist for the benefit of its people, and our continued success depends on rendering superior service to our customers. We offer the competitive pricing and reliability of a large corporation but maintain the dedicated customer service and family values of a small company. In 1951, E.W. (Woody) Blossman created Blossman Gas in Ocean Springs, Mississippi with its employees on call 24/7 in support of “Mr. B’s” philosophy - “don’t leave ‘em cold.” Throughout the next decade Blossman continued to grow, purchasing Bowden Butane in Georgia, partnering with Abston Gas in Waynesboro, MS and opening new branches in Alabama and Georgia. With the 60s coming to a close Blossman had 14 branches. Acquisitions of the previous decade resulted in rapid branch growth in the early 1970s and five additional branches in Georgia and Alabama. Then, a new series of acquisitions began that continued through two decades. The result was the company growing to 28 branches with an annual sales volume of 36 million gallons.
During this period, Blossman Gas was one of the first propane marketers to embrace the National Propane Gas Association’s GAS Check Program. Blossman’s safety and training program was refined and is now the most respected program in the propane industry.
In the late 90s and early 2000s, Blossman Gas began expanding heavily into the Carolinas, Tennessee and Virginia. Heading into the new millennium, the Blossman Gas family included 77 branches with over 76 million gallons in sales – ranking Blossman the 11th largest propane company in the country and the largest independent (family-owned) company, where it remains today.
