Blue Gate Restaurant & Theatre

About

At the Blue Gate Restaurant & Bakery, you will enjoy a warm and inviting atmosphere, great home-style cooking and friendly service in the heart of Shipshe.

Description

When the newly built Blue Gate Restaurant & Bakery opened it doors on August 4th, 2001 in Shipshewana, the entire town was invited over for dinner. As one of Indiana's largest restaurants, the Blue Gate comfortably seats 600 (more than the town's population). Built to reflect the surrounding community, the Blue Gate resembles a rambling white farmhouse, similar to those that dot the surrounding Amish coutnryside.

An award winning restaurant serving a world famous Family-style meal that features pressure fried chicken and 3 other meats, real mashed potatoes, Amish noodles, plus lots of other sides and 25 varieties of pies to choose from.

"Founded and owned by the Riegsecker Family, Blue Gate Hospitality encompasses some of the best of what Shipshewana Amish Country has to offer including the Blue Gate Restaurant, Theatre and Garden Inn. A cornerstone of downtown Shipshewana for almost 25 years, the Blue Gate Restaurant has served millions of guests its famous Amish/Mennonite fare. The Blue Gate Theatre offers over 280 shows per year with over 75 artists and features self-produced award-winning musicals. The newest addition, the Blue Gate Garden Inn features 154 rooms, many amenities and is located adjacent to the Shipshewana Event Center. The other Blue Gate Companies include: Blue Gate Bakery, Shipshewana Furniture Co., and Blue Gate Carriage Co."

Superb experience - would recommend to most people. We had a gluten and dairy-free person in our group and they found enough food options in the buffet. Price: $16 per person for the buffet which is downstairs and kids under 3 are free. Atmosphere: think upscale cracker barrel to an extent. Amish Country flair with wholesome atmosphere. Simple furniture with simple yet effective table accoutrements. Food: don't do anything but the buffet. It's so good and worth the stop. Plenty of food options! The smoked pork and fried chicken are really good. Drinks: standard Pepsi products. Service: super friendly and very attentive. Everything else: the bakery was a fun stop as were the other "mini shops" inside. 10/10 would recommend anyone and everyone stop here!
We had taken wife's dad out for his birthday had the buffet and show for the Elvis Tribute which was amazing I highly recommend it. Surprise to see so many fans id say at least 2k fans took in the show that night of September 30. What a awesome experience it was.Food: 5/5
What a great place a "hub central" in Shipshewana IN. The food is EXCELLENT. We picked the Buffet for $17.99 each and had a great meal. Salad, main course, and desert bars hosted fresh HOT and COLD food. Yea we ate too much but it was just SO GOOD! walk off some calories looking in the gift shop for the crafted goods as well as plan on an honest Amish buggy ride around the area. Just plan on some time to just walk and enjoy the community. Kid-friendliness: Easy menu choices for kids to find something they will eat. The buffet has any portion size you want. Wheelchair accessibility: Elevators to access the lower buffet, upper dining room and even the theater area. Beautiful steps with wide railings but it is walker and wheel chair available.
Excellent home cooked food and deserts with a nice little shopping area. You can check in online and I recommend that because if they are having. A show it gets very busyFood: 5/5
Excellent fried chicken. I would drive the 45 minutes again for that. Pot roast was excellent as well. Not a big fan of the meatloaf but was ok. Stuffing , corn, and mashed potatoes were good too.Food: 4/5
Love this place! Normally always go for the buffet. Never disappoints. Such a cool place with the bakery and home decor shop. The food is always fantastic. So many options, great variety, and everything tastes delicious. If you don't like this food, you just don't like food. Wonderful to sit in a restaurant that every surface isn't covered in a television. Just as nice is dining in a place that isn't just a glorified bar, which seems like most places are now. Come for the food, stay for the show.
Might be busy..but the wait is worth it...nice arrangement of seating...such nice country decor to look at allbthe various things.. ... Waitress was quite busy..but a good server.. Food is just delicious...and plenty big portions at quite reasonable prices..... The bakery had plenty more tasty things to tempt you with.. The blue gate salad is enormous..but so delicious..n the fried chicken...what ever seasoning they use..so good..n crispy mmmm..yummy.... Daughter had Amish door casserole..was so good as well..and still ordered some choices of their delectable pies ...to take home. Had samples at the cash register of cashew crunch....so good..I bought a bag...yummm!!!
Beautiful restaurant with a buffet downstairs. Wonderful staff. I had to take pictures in the Restroom because it is in my top 3 most beautiful restrooms in the US & EU combined.Food: 5/5
Nice people very clean and super busy. We did the buffet as part of our show package. However our show was at a different Blue Gate theater not the one connected to the restaurant.Food: 4/5
This was the second wonderful Restaurant we ate at during our visit to Amish country, the Bluegate Restaurant and Bakery in Shipshewana, Indiana. OMG, talking about fresh off the farm, corn, dressing, salads, mashed potatoes, homemade bread. A bakery with pies and cakes that made you want to buy them all. The fall decorations were astounding and we were close to numerous craft shops and experienced riding in an authentic Amish buggy. A great place to visit.
