We wanted to see an older new release so we decided to put on blinders and go to the AMC Blueridge. The film was very enjoyable, the theatre not so much. Broken & stained seats, worn carpets, poor sound system. This theater was tolerable when it was $2.99 per show. Now it's almost eight bucks per ticket and seven bucks for twenty-five cents worth of popcorn, Never again. Good bye Blueridge.
Hidden gem of first run theaters. Love the fact it hasn't been renovated, so it's not super expensive. For 5.99 you can watch a first run movie. The seats are comfortable and fine. The sound system is great. I enjoy the popcorn, which you can add your own butter. They even have a beverage machine where you can mix your own flavored drinks. It's never busy and is well worth the trip.
We love coming here. The price is perfect and at under $2.50 pet ticket, you don't mind spending money on popcorn and a drink. The staff are really nice, the place is clean, and the seats are really comfy. This is our movie theater of choice. Lots of bonus when you join their rewards program... completely worth it!
This theatre is dumpy and long overdue for a renovation. I expected better from AMC
I think the bad reviews are from people who expect a high priced regular movie theatre. The movies are the ones that have come and went in normal theaters, so its great if you missed one. Admission is only $2 and they have a great $13 combo that includes admission for two, large popcorn and two drinks you pay more than that just to get into any other theater. Overall, yes the seats and a bit lumpy and the place is not top notch, but the price is amazing and we had no problems with picture or sound quality. A great place for a simple movie experience with popcorn and the works without costing an arm and a leg. I loved the price tag and will return.
Very unfortunate that they can't seem to find a business model that works for this place. I don't know if they were actually losing money with the cheap tickets, or if they thought they'd make more by charging near full price, but now the fun is all gone. It used to be great to know there was a budget movie theater that we always called the "dollar theater" even as the price crept up a few quarters for those who don't want to pay $20 for a movie and snack. If you had to wait a couple months to see your movie, so what? There was still the same stream of movies coming through here, just at a slight delay. But now, the lower quality of the theater can't compete at the prices charged. Now for a couple dollars more I can see a movie in a really nice theater with better sound, reclining stadium seats, and better quality snacks. There seems to be no real value here any more. Maybe a dollar theater just can't exist here - too bad really. If saving $2 off your ticket price is really the most important thing to you, then I suppose this is the place to go.
2018 update: Not so cheap any more. They've done a fair bit of renovation, but it still feels like the cheap theater. Bathrooms are still dirty but the lights work. Movies are closer to first run, but so are the prices. 2013: Cheap movies. That's pretty much why you go. The bathrooms are dirty, and tend to be dark. The parking lots are scary at night in the winter, and if you leave a coat or purse on your chair when you go to the bathroom, it may not be there when you get back. Some of the seats are broken or missing, or have no springs. On the positive - The concessions are fine, actually quite a bit cheaper than normal, and taste as expected. The lines move quickly. The front parking lot is very well lit, and the people are usually as well or even better behaved than at some of the more pricey venues. But it's the only really cheap theater in town, and we love it when we don't want to spend $20+ for a movie + babysitters
This review is not directed towards the staff. The attendant I interacted with was super friendly. I'm sure you all work hard, but you should have a better theater to work in. I felt like I was going back to the 80s. Walking towards our theater, my friend commented that it looked like an old hotel. I commented that it smelled like one, too. The seats are the old auditorium kind. Mine was comfortable, but they were dingy and faded. The smell of old dust was so strong I could "taste" the air in the theater throughout the movie. AMC needs to do some serious renovations. I won't be going back to that location otherwise.
1 star from me and that's only because the ticket prices are cheaper than the rest of the movie theaters around. Other than that, the chairs are horrible!!! They're so old and faded. The floors and carpet are disgusting. After seeing the condition of the actual theater, I was afraid to order anything from the concession area. I remember when movies were $1.50, this place was so much better. You would think with the up in prices, they would've upgraded these theater seats and floors. NEVER AGAIN and that's too bad, because this place is only 10 minutes from my home.
Well, here's an update since it changed ownership to AMC. It's no longer a $2 theater, that changed in August 2018. The movie costs are $5 before 4pm and $7 after 4pm. They have self serve drink station and butter/oil area for popcorn, but tell you the truth when we were there the place was really dirty around these areas. The bathrooms needed cleaned and some stall doors the latches didn't work. When you walk in the main hall to theaters there is an odor that is reminiscent of a urine smell. The theater is looking dated and that was fine when it was $2 per movie, but not fine when you increase the price. I gave this place a 3 star because of the staff working there. We were greeted by a friendly young man at the concession stand where we bought our tickets. We also talked to other folks there that smiled and were friendly to us. I still miss the $2 movie price, but I guess all good things must come to an end.
