Description

Blue Spring State Park covers more than 2,600 acres, including the largest spring on the St. Johns River. Blue Spring is a designated Manatee Refuge and the winter home to a growing population of West Indian Manatees. During our famous manatee season, which approximately runs from mid-November through March, several hundred manatee can be viewed atop the spring’s overlooks. The spring and spring run are closed to all water activity while manatees are present during this time. Swimming or diving with manatees is not permitted; this rule is strictly enforced.

The spring´s crystal clear, 73 degree water can be enjoyed by swimmers, snorkelers, and certified scuba divers with a partner during our designated swimming season. Fishing, canoeing and boating are also enjoyed along the St. John’s River. River boat tours are available; for reservations, call St. Johns River Cruises at (386) 917-0724.

A self-guided tour inside the historic Thursby house, built in 1872, can also be experienced. In addition the park has plenty of picnic areas as well as three covered pavilions. Air-conditioned cabins and a full-facility campground are available for visitors interested in staying overnight.

Due to heavy visitation, we recommend arriving early to ensure entrance into the park.

"The refreshing 72-degree waters of Blue Spring greet visitors at this gem along the St. Johns River. Conservation measures can produce astounding results. In 1970, two years before Blue Spring State Park was established, researchers tracked 14 manatees in the spring run. By 2005, after years of park improvements and manatee protection efforts, wintering manatee numbers exceeded 200, and by 2023 that number skyrocketed to a record 729. Besides "sea cows," fish abound in the spring run and attract a variety of wading birds, ospreys, eagles, and kingfishers. Visitors can hike along the spring run or on the 4.5-mile Pine Island Trail to see the park's wonders."

Gorgeous park! We had a great time tubing and walking around appreciating the scenery and wildlife. We were within 2 feet of a momma manatee and her calf that swam by and stopped to say "hi"! The restroom facilities and gift shop were both well maintained. We enjoyed our day here.
The park was kept clean, the water was great. We were able to swim with the mantees while we were there they swam near the head of the spring. You are not allowed to touch them though, and you have to stay 20 feet away. There’s somebody who stays on a kayak and kind of follows the manatees to make sure people are leaving them alone. And that’s a good thing. It was nice to see some wildlife in the water with us. you can scuba dive here so that was fun to see the scuba divers going down into the hole. The current is very strong coming out of the hole so for younger children it could be difficult. I was able to walk through the old house of the person who used to live there, that was pretty cool. And they have a nice park for the kids, kayaks you can rent, lockers and tubes for rent. Now there’s not a lot of picnic tables so if it’s a crowded day that could be tricky if you’re trying to catch a table… But it’s not bad it’s very pretty lots of open grass to lay a blanket out if you wanna go picnic style. There is a decent amount of bathrooms probably about 8 to 10 stalls. I would definitely recommend !!!
Very nice state park close to Orlando, about 45 minutes drive to get there. In December we are not able to swim but the beautiful spring kept many manatees, it was great time to see so many of them! Kids love them.
Dropped in just outside the park go straight instead of turning into park. Nice paddle, stopped at the kayak rental and walked down to spring and enjoyed a swim. Saw deer, gators, raccoon, lots of birds. Beautiful day :-
It is truly awe inspiring. The amount of wildlife, chiefly manatees but also gators, big ones at that, in close vicinity is really special. The water is so clear that you can easily spot all of the different fish species including gars. The park also offers picnic areas and if my memory serves me right restrooms and vending machines for water and sodas. The boardwalk throughout the park is also a perfect way to get around to the upper ponds and to do some bird watching while exploring the area. I will definitely return.
The water was very chilly, if you’re planning on spending extra time swimming around bring a wetsuit or a tube! We were lucky enough to come during the time of season that they let you swim in the water. We were lucky enough to see manatees swimming around before we got into the water. The water was clear and refreshing. I would not recommend the hot dogs but I would recommend bringing food. It was $6 for a car with two people, cash only. Restrooms: Pretty clean for these types of facilities!
Had a fabulous time! Rented a canoe through Blue Springs Adventures doing the unguided option and it was worth every penny! Only spent the 6$ for park admission and it was around 34$ for a 4 hr 2 person canoe rental they also offer kayak rentals. Lots of wild life; birds, turtles, manatees, snakes, and gators! Oh my! 10/10 do recommend and will do again! After we finished our canoe trip we went down to the springs to cool off which was the icing on the top of the cake!
As someone that hasn’t done kayaking since the age of 13; and is terrified of bugs of any kind - we ventured out on this kayaking adventure through Blue Spring State Park. Praise be for our wonderful guide Ashley who showed us what to do but also expertly guided a group of us through the water, taking us to the best parts. Give this a go if you want something outdoors based, or if you’re looking for an alternative day out from the Orlando theme parks. Restrooms: Basic amenities but the whole day out makes up for it.
Camping review. Love the campsites here. Plenty of woodland coverage feels like all alone. Restrooms clean and hot water for a shower. Easy walk or bike ride to the spring. Lovely 73 degrees water, and two manatees swam by while we were swimming. Excellent bike/hiking trails and deer everywhere.
Wonderful river to relax with friends and family. Arrive early 6:30-7:30. The admittance is blocked at 8:00 right when they open. Intermittent openings occur throughout the day. However, at 8:00 am they turn you away. Visa is accepted, it is not only cash. There are a limited number of picnic tables and fewer grills supplied by the park. There is a shop for food and snacks as well as a shop for souvenirs and necessities. Bug spray, sunblock, charcoal and lighter fluid. Lighters as well as grilling tools and paper plates etc. Swimsuits for all ages. All are moderately priced. There is 1 large covered seating area. Tube rentals are available. Get there before opening and enjoy your time. The water is always 72°
