Hello, my name is Christina Smith, and I have been working as a bookkeeper since 2011.
I am certified as a professional bookkeeper, CPB, with the Institute of Professional Bookkeepers of Canada.
Prior to 2011, I spent twelve years working in and running a pet store. My specialties were pet nutrition and training as well as educating my clients in all aspects of owning and caring for domestic pets.
What I enjoyed about this (and why I did it for so long) was not that I got to pet puppies and kittens for twelve years, but that I got to genuinely help people. I constantly dealt with customers in their frustrations, grieving periods, and moments of success and happiness when it came to overcoming hurdles and obstacles in their lives.
In 2010, I left the pet industry on maternity leave with my first child and decided with this new “one –year-limited-free-time” to pursue another passion of mine – numbers. I enrolled just before having a baby and began my studies with the CGA of BC.
Why the change? Well, I wanted to invest in a career that I knew I would enjoy, that would provide for my family and that would allow me to continue helping people.
I’d like to think of myself as the non – taped glasses, calculator on my hip and pen in my pocket kind of accountant/bookkeeper.
I want people to feel comfortable and not intimidated when they think of bookkeeping or accounting related services and not worry that they will be flooded with accounting jargon that they have to pretend to understand.
My goal is to help as many people as I can and make them feel like when they’ve dealt with me they feel like they just came from a coffee or lunch date with an old friend!
I look forward to the adventures ahead, and meeting many wonderful people.
