Brattleboro Food Co-op

About

The Brattleboro Food Co-op, your downtown Natural Foods Market and Deli. Providing Southern Vermont with healthy food choices for 40 years!

Description

The Brattleboro Food Co-op was formed in 1975 as a small buying club. Today, the Co-op is a 14,580 square foot natural foods market and deli on the ground floor of a four-story building that also includes Co-op offices, a commissary kitchen, a cooking classroom, and 24 apartments. This beautiful downtown anchor building is a result of a collaboration with the Windham and Windsor Housing Trust and Housing Vermont, with many environmentally friendly features, including utilizing refrigeration waste heat to heat apartments and the store, solar panels on the roof, and many more. The current store opened for business in June of 2012.

The Co-op is community-owned, with over 6000 active shareholders, and our goal is to be as accessible and responsive to you as possible. We strive to provide you with quality foods at reasonable prices, in a relaxed and friendly environment. Our staff is knowledgeable and eager to help shoppers in any way that they can. We are located in southeastern Vermont, just over the Massachusetts and New Hampshire borders. Our community offers beautiful Vermont countryside, a lively cultural scene, and easy access to skiing, hiking and other outdoor activities.

The Brattleboro Food Co-op places a strong emphasis on supporting local producers. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to develop personal relationships with local farmers and businesses, and we enjoy introducing their products to our customers. Our "Producer of the Month" program highlights local growers and vendors in an effort to strengthen our local economy and promote the value of buying locally. Through charitable giving, Co-op sponsored events, classes, and programs, we strive to build relationships within our community. We offer nutrition classes in our local school systems and recently launched a "Healthy Snack Program" which provides a way for teachers to introduce nutritious snacks into their classrooms.

"The Brattleboro Food Co-op is a community-owned grocery store, market and deli. We are owned by over 8,000 community members. Operating 7 days per week. Offerings include produce, meat, seafood, bulk foods, packaged foods, frozen food, beer, wine, and a deli. Grab and go options available as well as an extensive wellness department."

It was a pleasant surprise to find this co-op in the area. It was much bigger than I initially thought and had a great variety of high quality items. I loved their bulk section where they displayed large selections of grains, nuts, coffee, spices, tea, and more! Meat sections had some good quality meats and lots of locally produced items made them more appealing. Also a big selections of wines. Very limited seafood section though. Prices are somewhat reasonable the last couple of times I shopped here. You can also find some items that are hard to find at regular grocery store.
This is a great co-op with an awesome bulk food selection and a better craft beer selection than most bottle shops or craft beer stores. I wasn't there when they were preparing food but I look forward to going back when they do. There was a great grocery selection with some really unique and interesting snacks.
The freshest and juiciest blueberries I've EVER had. Freaking amazing Co-Op. Even my foodie friend was blown away by the selection.
Lovely co-op with large array of foods. Many local items. They have a nice prepared food section cold, a self-serve hot food bar, plus made-to-order sandwiches, smoothies, and juices. The juices and smoothies are reasonably priced and can be purchased with food stamps. Asked questions of several staff members - everyone was helpful and friendly. Happy to have this store here in Brattleboro! I believe it is connected to the Onion River Co-op in Burlington and that membership crosses over, but not totally sure on that.
Very large and well established coop. Good variety of bulk and packaged items, high quality prepared foods, yummy coffee, and nice eating areas both inside and outside. Good place to do computer work in, as the eating area has nice windows!
Community and purpose driven at its best, the co-op is a staple for local growers and shoppers alike. Fair prices and a wide selection including specialty items in each department. The friendly attitude is real and they also close on holidays to be fair to employees.
Have been a customer for over 20 years. Bought a bag of cheddar ends from the cheese department. They molded within three days. I brought them back but could not find my receipt. Customer service person had to get the manager. Manager called the person from the cheese department who had a real attitude and basically accused me of being some kind of cheese scammer. Really a hassle for something that should have been easily remedied. A truly unprofessional and negative customer service experience.
You can see Wantistiquet loom above you And there’s a nice river and waterfall right across the driveway. Good place to bring your own food and sit. Beggars abound many with more money than me and a place to sleep But the Liberal-Conservatives that frequent the store are far more annoying.
Are you ready to shell out a 50% premium over the price of the same identical products you can find 5 minutes away at a chain supermarket? If you are, this is paradise for you. Slightly less run-of-the-mill products, like non-organic olive oil start at the insane price of $8-9 FOR HALF A LITER bottom shelf brands. The rest is the same or worse. The wine selection is smoke in the eyes: lots of different labels -- too many, in fact, but in the whites bins, you will have a choice of pinot grigio from Sicily, pinot grigio from the Veneto region, pinot grigio from Piedmont, pinot grigio from Tuscany, pinot grigio California, pinot grigio from Washington, pinot grigio from New Zealand, pinot grigio from South Africa and, finally, pinot grigio from Chile and Argentina. The reds? Again, too many labels and practically no choice. Terroir to the winemonger means absolutely nothing. S/he must have been indoctrinated by the various salespersons who go around and push "varietal" as the ultimate in marketing strategy.
Wide selection of fresh, well organized produce & meat, as well as bulk foods, natural, healthy options, and ready to go meals. Indoor/outdoor dining areas for patrons. Very thoroughly thought out grocery store. This would be my one stop shop.
