Description

Brazen open kitchen | bar provides a comfortable atmosphere with an innovative menu that allows our patrons to hold business luncheons, enjoy small plates with a friend at the bar, or to entertain friends and family from our seasonal inspired menu, all while being catered to in a sophisticated but casual fashion. We are passionate about the ingredients we use and where they come from. When seasons permit we will source as many ingredients local as possible. Equally passionate about how the food is prepared and the techniques used, we make most if not all items from scratch in house.

Food was simply AMAZING! Drinks were also great! We shared the pork schnitzel and it was too big for both of us. We also had the leek fondue, and it and the bread with it were tops!
Good overall experience for an upscale place to grab a meal. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and the food was unique and tasted good, albeit not mind-blowingly good in my opinion. Recommend getting reservations as it is a popular spot and the wait times are long for those who dont plan ahead on busy weekends.
What a gem of a find in Dubuque, IA of all places! If you're a local, Brazen offers a complete dining experience. If you are a foodie traveling through, like me, you will be elated to find a fine dining establishment in Dubuque all places! Service was smooth and thoughtful. Our server, Cristina, was well-versed and attentive, even down to the details on our wine label. She was attentive to allergies and made sure to check with the kitchen on ingredients. We ordered the Leek Fondue and Pork Belly for appetizers. Seriously that fondue will make everyone ask if it's okay to lick the bowl! The pork belly melts in your mouth while the chicharrones contrast with a crisp the bite. Don't go there looking for southern fried chicken. You will be disappointed. Moist juicy chicken with a heavy crunchy breading, Brazen's fried chicken is a generous example of Midwestern comfort food. Remember, we're still in Iowa. However, one bite of the umami braised beef short rib had this southerner swooning and crooning, "ooo, mommy!" Yes, it's that delicious. Fork tender beef. Savory goat cheese polenta. With a swoop, the cabbage puree balances all those flavors in a delightful bite. Do yourself a favor and order dessert. Heck! Bring a friend and order two! If Banana cake is still on the menu. You'll have dreams about that buttery carmel sauce. I never thought I'd be saying this...I can't wait to go back to dine in Dubuque!
Our food was wonderful! The service was very good. The atmosphere was great! We came here with the mindset of paying a little extra for fine dining. We got a big city dinner experience in a smaller Midwest city without the 2 hour wait time. Wonderful experience!Food: 5/5
Truly wonderful food!! And incredible bastion of dining nestled in a cozy Midwest setting. This is the kind of place where you know the chef is amazing and everything on the menu is great, so feel free to venture away from things you would normally order and go for something new! We had the porkbelly, Bluefin tartare, pork shoulder, and a great creme brulee. Can't wait to visit again!
I normally have a wonderful experience with Brazen: the roasted pork chop w/ risotto they used to serve was phenomenal, the fried chicken is spectacular, their desserts are to die for, the ambiance of the restaurant is second to none in Dubuque & the staff are highly attentive. The reason for the low review, though, is due to their treatment of takeout entrees . The last time I ordered a steak for takeout, it was lukewarm & lacked any distinguishable flavor that would separate it from any other meat, but at a $50 price tag I was underwhelmed & disappointed seeing as this restaurant has given me some of my favorite dishes ever in the past. Tonight, we spent about $112 in takeout w/ a sizeable tip , and the $36 halibut we received was extremely disappointing because the eggplant that was advertised to accompany the dish was now where to be seen and only a bites worth of plantains were present with the dish . I love this restaurant, and every time I eat inside me my guests have an amazing experience . Their takeout, on the other hand, has been consistently mediocre, and I just wish that the portion sizes & care given to the dishes that leave the restaurant were the same as the ones presented inside the restaurant’s interior.
Let's be clear: Go eat at Brazen. Just go. Brazen is a 5-star restaurant, that occasionally has 4-star moments, largely due to their fresh-local approach. So, go eat at Brazen but just be savvy. Based on our most recent visit: -Service is outstanding. -Atmosphere is great. -Drinks alcoholic and NA are excellent. -Brazen Salad was delicious, and they spit one order into 2 bowls for us. Great size and alternative appetizer. -Fried Chicken is sublime. This will be one of the if not the best chicken entrees you'll ever have. Not just fried chicken, chicken period. So good. -Spicy Crab pasta was okay, but not worth the price. It was a bit bland, so not sure where the "spicy" was. You could certainly taste the crab good, but we were expecting "lumps" of crab not loose fibers intermixed. Each bite was good, but not reflective of the price point. -Creme Brulee. Very good dessert. Highly recommend. Silk texture, vanilla punch. Solid. -The Peach thing. This would be amazing in the heart of peach season. As it was the peaches were a bit hard and not super "peachy", so the overall dessert couldn't shine. We should've known better, but there it is.
Pork Schnitzel was fantastic. Excellent drinks. Friendly staff.Food: 5/5
Star ratings. 1 bad. 2 below average. 3 average / neutral. 4 good. 5 excellent. Love the atmosphere and location. Service and food was great. Love open kitchen designs. Large wine list. Cocktail list slim but focused. Overall food was good. Salt use is evident but not distracting. Love the use of oils. Definitely use the bread for dipping in the Asparagus soup. Chocolate mousse is super rich definitely for sharing. Shrimp was great very well balanced plate. The almond anchovie added the perfect amount of crunch. Campanella was good. More peas would've been nice. Asparagus added good crunch to dish. Bonus came by when morels were in season. Overall very well priced for meal.
Had a great experience at Brazen! The food was excellent, you can tell they put a lot of thought into curating their menu, which changes with the seasons. I had the ribeye with mashed potatoes which was very good. My partner had the fried chicken and that was delicious as well, and the portions were very generous for the price. Good cocktails, I ordered the Pomegranate Cosmo and really enjoyed it! Prices were reasonable and service was great too, our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. Definitely recommend coming here if you are looking for a nice dinner in Dubuque!
