Our goal is to inform, empower and inspire women and girls to protect their breast health.
The year was 2000. Marisa Weiss, M.D. launched Breastcancer.org with the mission to help women and their loved ones make sense of the complex medical and personal information about breast cancer, so they can make the best decisions for their lives.
In 2008, Dr. Weiss, with her daughter Isabel, authored Taking Care of Your “Girls:” A Breast Health Guide for Girls, Teens, and In-Betweens, with the hope of increasing awareness of the steps women and girls can take today to minimize the risk of breast cancer later in life.
Fast forward to today, and very little has changed. Despite annual October awareness messages and pink ribbons, one in 8 women will still be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. And the overall incidence of breast cancer is projected to double by the year 2030. Somewhere along the way, the information on prevention has gotten lost or buried beneath the pink ribbons.
The dialogue needs to change. Our goal is to shift the conversation from breast cancer awareness to promotion of breast health.
Breastcancer.org is excited to bring to you our Prevention Program, and we invite you to join the breast health movement.
