In 2008, the Radford Tourism Commission in partnership with the Radford Heritage Foundation began planning and fundraising efforts to develop a 1.3-acre site near Glencoe Museum into an exciting cultural heritage attraction for our city and our visitors. The site, donated by Norfolk Southern Corporation, features a nod to our important frontier story and to our railroad heritage. An eight-foot-tall freestanding bronze of Mary Draper Ingles, an icon for our country’s beginnings, will honor Radford’s famous frontier heroine. The Mary Draper Ingles statue was created by artist Matt Langford. The pedestal created for the statue will feature information about her amazing 700 mile trek home. In addition, a train viewing platform with interpretive signage will recall our city’s important connection to the railroad-both in the past and in the current day.
Please consider making a tax deductible donation for this important project. Our goal to raise $200,000 to complete the project to Bring Mary Home and can be done with your help! All gifts will be recognized in a Donor Book, Donations of $200 or more will be honored on a plaque at the sculpture site.
How to donate: Checks should be made payable to “Radford Heritage Foundation”. All contributions are tax-deductible within full extent of the law.
