My father lived at Brookdale for 14 years. When he was more active, he enjoyed the social activities and as his health declined, we all appreciated the fact that Brookdale has a doctor and rehab facilities on site. When my father broke his hip during Covid, the ability to rehab at home was a huge benefit. I've always found the staff to be extremely helpful, kind and responsive.
My Aunt has spent almost 5 years at Brookdale Battery Park. She really enjoys the activities/music programs. Seems like there is always a new program coming up. She likes the meals that are offered and the staff is very friendly. The entire staff has been very professional dealing her and our family. They all know her name and treat her with respect. If you have a loved who needs some extra care I would recommend Brookdale Battery Park highly.
If you are an active, independent senior age 62plus, Brookdale Senior Living Solutions is the place for you. Located in Battery Park City, one block from the magnificent Esplanade along the Hudson River and walkable to the World Trade Center complex, Brookdale offers a daily menu of activities for the mind and body. This exciting community of retired professionals provides friendship and fun, ease of living, and amenities that are well-suited to the senior chapter of your life. Come join us.
The facility is not worth the money. Until my mom's death a month ago, she resided in a 1 bdrm apt. The starting cost in 2015 8k. The ending cost 13k. Please note, that when a resident moves or dies the apartment is upgraded with the latest appliances. The starting cost for an updated1bdrm 8k. My mom's appliances and fixtures looked liked something from the late 70s. Last year, I asked for new carpeting or flooring. Nothing happened. They didn't have the staff to give the off-white carpet a proper cleaning. An outside vendor was hired to clean the carpet. This year the outdated fridge sprung a leak. My mom paid for the cleanup. Just before my mom died, I had signed a rental agreement for an apartment across the street. It was 8k a month with 1,200 sq.feet.There were new appliances, an island kitchen, and 2 full baths. If you are an independent senior then Brookdale is not worth the money. If you become incapacitated hire a caretaker. That's what I did for my mom. Also there is an uneasy hierarchy at the facility. The residents are well-to-do white folks. The support staff and aides are mostly women of color. The disrespect for the staff starts at the top. Moreover, the hierarchy isn't accustomed to dealing with black women who are not home health aides. I hired my mom's caretaker from Brookdale. Brookdale's management attempted to bully me in not hiring the caretaker. They indicated that the caretaker's contract prohibited direct hires. I requested that they scan the contract to my attention. Needless to say, the caretaker was with my mom until she took her last breath. She was godsend for our family.
Best place ever! Activities are wonderful. Most outstanding part about Brookdale is the AMAZING staff! My mother is SO well cared for. She appreciates everyone who works with her or she comes in contact with. I love the staff and can’t thank them enough. These are special people that work at Brookdale Battery Park! Brookdale Battery Park City has been a great place for my mother. She is independent and thrives on the many physical and intellectual activities that are provided. She loves being by the water and takes daily walks on the promenade. The staff has been wonderful and she has made lovely new friends with similar interests.
Our family is so pleased to have found Brookdale! The outstanding staff at Brookdale has been extremely accommodating and always cheerful and kind – whenever we have needed help – day or night! We are very grateful to the dedicated individuals who have so kindly and graciously contributed to the transition of our mother’s move into a new home environment. It has been a big help and a relief to us, as we care for our mother in this new stage of her life. Thank you all at Brookdale, Battery Park City!
I was nervous about transitioning from living in a house in the suburbs to a New York City senior independent facility, but in hindsight I had nothing to worry about. The staff is incredible. They are friendly and helpful. They make you feel safe. The program staff plan activities that are wonderful. The daily schedule includes various exercise classes, movies, lectures, art classes, and films and tours. We have members of the New York City ballet come to Brookdale as does the star of the metropolitan opera. Juilliard students perform for us. There is a box office where you can sign up for weekly trips to museums shows etc. There are also weekly bus trips to food stores. Getting to doctor appointments are made easy with Brookdale providing transportation. I’ve made friends that I socialize with and attend activities with. We live in a vibrant beautiful neighborhood with many beautiful parks, nearby shopping, and restaurants. I couldn’t be happier.
I want to thank everyone at Brookdale Battery Park for the amazing job they have done over the last months of this pandemic. They have made it a safe and pleasant environment with everything going on. They have provided meals to everyone and really taken care of the residents health and well being. It is a wonderful place. In a great neighborhood. Even with the pandemic the residents have been able to walk along the Hudson for exercise.
The staff is excellent and caring. The neighborhood is great for walks.. with parks and greenery it seems more like an upscale suburb of Manhattan - cleaner, quieter. If that's your cup of tea, this could be the place for you. My wife and I moved here from London after 50 years abroad, most of that time as a foreign correspondent for CBS News. We have lived at Brookdale for three years but did not fully realize its value until we saw how well the staff protected and cared for us during the pandemic.
