Brooklyn Cat Cafe

About

Brooklyn’s first and only cat cafe is open! Our nonprofit cat cafe is home to our adoptable rescue cats and a resource center to help animals in need.

Description

Humans and cats share a powerful emotional bond. A soft, purring cat enfolded in the embrace of a loving person is one of life's great joys for both. And we enjoy hours of laughter watching their hilarious antics whether in our homes with a toy, or all over the internet.

Sadly, the reality for too many cats is far different. Every year 1.4 million cats are killed in city shelters across the United States. New York City alone killed nearly 2,400 adoptable cats in the city shelters in 2014. An estimated tens of thousands more live on the city’s streets facing the threats of cars, disease, cold, starvation and cruelty.

Brooklyn Cat Café will provide the community with a place to spend time with cats AND the tools to help animals in need, offering:

1. A nonprofit Cat Café where the community can come spend time playing and cuddling with cats.
2. An adoption center to keep cats off the streets and out of the shelters until they find their forever homes.
3. A community resource center providing services to help people help animals:
• Resources for animal rescuers: In New York City independent animal rescuers spend thousands of dollars of their own money rescuing and caring for companion animals often while working full time jobs. Brooklyn Cat Cafe will offer veterinary clinics in the evenings with low cost vaccines and veterinary exams for animal rescuers.
• Resources for owners to keep pets in homes: We will offer pet owners low cost vaccines and veterinary exams, as well as workshops on medical and behavior issues where pet owners can address questions to a veterinarian.
• Humane education: Classes for young people and the community to learn the value of caring for urban animals both wild and domesticated, and to teach responsible pet ownership.
• TNR Resources – Trap-Neuter-Release, or TNR, is a proven humane and effective method to reduce the population of unadoptable, outdoor community cats. Brooklyn Cat Café will provide space for TNR certification workshops and much needed holding space for TNR projects in Brooklyn.

Excellent organization ! The volunteers inform you about the cats in the beginning. They are very clear about their policies. Each 30min is $12. They are kind enough to let customers stay over their alotted times and you can pay before leaving for the additional time they tell you at the entrance. Helping cats get adopted in a unique way <333. Love and respect. I would camp outside if i could lol will be visiting againn!!
Love this place! I’ve been here a few times with my daughter she’s now 7, but first visit was when she was 4, and it’s very kid-friendly. I was happy to see that they expanded! We tried out the “kitten party” in addition to the 30 mins with the regular cats. Everything is exactly as described on the website. The kitten party is really cute! It was just the 2 of us, and we sat and played with kittens for 30 mins before heading back down to play with the big cats. I have to admit that I felt like $100 was a bit much to spend for an hour total, but at least it goes to a good cause. We can’t have cats we have birds!, but my daughter is a huge cat fan, so it’s great to be able to visit and interact with kitties. I would love for my daughter to volunteer here, but sadly you have to be over 18 makes sense, but my daughter is unusually responsible. She actually reminded me about collar colors as I was petting a red-collared cat who ended up swiping me with his paw . Please note that this is NOT an actual cafe! Again, everything is explained clearly on the website. The staff are WONDERFUL and kind. I’ve asked about various cats and they are all well-informed. They explain everything at the door as well, and now require you to wear shoe covers, which is for the protection of the cats. I highly recommend making reservations ahead of time, since they thankfully only let a certain number of people in at a time. Overall, lovely place with lovely people.
This place is lovely. The volunteers/employees are so kind and helpful. You can see they care about the cats. There are quite a few cats and kittens. You can't pet the kittens, but they are so fun to watch. It's kid friendly too!
All Volunteers are incredible, they identify the cats by collar so you know if they can be feed during your visit or not. The space is very well kept and when you get to the cafe they explain everything you can or you cannot do. I’d really love them to have a espresso machine I really wanted to have an iced coffee while my daughter enjoyed the felines. You’re charge right before after leaving and you can get a treat bag for five dollars.
The moment we came in were friendly, happy, beautiful cats all greeting us. It was like we died and went to heaven. If we could have stayed the whole day it would have flown by. This company has an amazing and important vision, helping cats in need, and every penny u spend here is towards their mission!!! The cats will thank you! The staff is warm and love talking about each and every critter there. We will be back soon! Paul and EV
There were so many cats here, and they were all very well taken care of. They had lots of space. It was very calm, quiet, and the setting was very cozy. You're supposed to make an appointment ahead of time, but you can also try heading in and make an appointment on the spot. It is $10/per person for 30 mins and we were able to enjoy an array of snacks and bottled drinks. It's not so much a cafe as the name of the store says, but more like an open cage cat rescue with a comfy and homey setting Overall, my experience left me feeling motivated and refreshed. The cats I interacted with were so attentive and enjoyed playing with the toys I offered! **Do pay attention to the color of the collars as they will indicate how you should approach them
Very very cute place. Kind staff and fun kitties Make reservations!!! it's 10$ per 30min Which is reasonable and enough to interact with them. If you want to interact with them come when they are not sleeping morning or evening. Amazing place. We went with 3 kids. Lived it. If you go on school break, holidays or weekend make a reservation on their website. Nice place. Have a great area around. You can walk before or after.
I absolutely love volunteering here and it’s also been great to visit with family and friends! Everyone is very nice and knowledgeable, the space is pretty big, and there are lots of cats to interact with or adopt!! I love all of the amazing work this organization is doing for cat rescue and adoption and highly recommend visiting them if you have a chance!
A beautiful place with fabulous cats run by warm, kind people. It’s no surprise that they have so many adoptions. Bonding happens quickly when you can meet and play with cats in an open, friendly environment.
We went to the Cat Bingo night and had an amazing time! The cats are so incredibly cute and well behaved shy ones wear a red collar, be aware!. Thank you for a fun evening! I will be back!
