Brookwood Christian School

About

Our curriculum is tailored to compensate for language based learning disorders, like dyslexia. It is one few schools serving such students in the Atlanta area. Our class sizes are 7 or less, which allows for customized instruction for each student.

Description

Founded in 2004, the current campus was established in 2008 by Principal/Director, Kim Wigington, in order to better serve her two daughters’ reading comprehension concerns, one with dyslexia and the other an English language learner, adopted from Latvia.

We have outgrown the current building and are currently in the beginning phases of expanding our campus. While we are extremely proud of the achievement of our students, we would like to be able to help more students in need of the same services.

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit: TAX ID [EIN]: 20-8499098

Mission

Our mission, at Brookwood Christian School, is to encourage exceptional students enrolled in first through twelfth grades to work to their very best abilities to achieve their full potential in a low stress Christian environment. We nurture individual learning styles while remediating specific deficits and gaps in previous instruction. We strive to improve our students’ quality of life through academics, physical, emotional, cultural, social, and spiritual growth.

Brookwood Christian School was a perfect fit for my son. He has many learning challenges and traditional curriculum was a constant source of stress for him. Thank God we found Brookwood. The teachers were able teach my son the joy of learning at his level while challenging him to seek higher academic success.
I am so thankful to BCS for everything they did for my son. He never would have graduated high school if he had been in public school. I looked into many different schools but they did not have the loving atmosphere I felt at BCS. Because of the small class sizes, individual attention to his specific learning needs, and the caring teachers not only did he graduate but he went on to a Jr College to play baseball and will be attending a Division 1 College in the fall on a baseball scholarship.
My daughter was going to a school that specialized in learning disabilities. Her school was forced to close suddenly just 3 weeks before school started in the fall. We panicked looking for a place where our daughter could get the special care that we had come to expect. We interviewed at 8 different schools, all of which were more than eager to show us their awards and talk about their achievements. A mutual friend told us about Brookwood. When we arrived for our interview, rather than walking us past a trophy case and lauding the school's achievements, Kim sat us down and said, "Tell me about your little girl." That was in 2012, we have never had one minute of doubt that our daughter was receiving a top-notch education. Oh and my daughter, she's entering college next spring, at 16.
BCS is an independent Christian school. Our ministry is to teach students with dyslexia who have not been able to find success in other private or public schools. Even though we are not a school for autism, we sometimes graciously accept high functioning autistic students who may do well in our small school. We are not staffed or exclusively designed to meet the particular needs associated with autism. Some autistic students are able to do well, and others are not. We use a modern 21st century curriculum that is not exclusively used in Christian Schools. Our curriculum is designed to enhance language in students with language based learning differences. Christian school curriculum is not designed for LD students. We are not a Church nor are we affiliated with any particular denomination. We welcome, tolerate, and show God’s grace to all our students, regardless of their faith. We do not require students and families to sign a statement of faith or get a recommendation from a pastor. Our ministry is to teach and improve literacy rates for those who struggle with reading.
BCS has helped my daughter tremendously, she was failing all her classes in public schools and now is making all "A's" and "B's". She was lost in the public school system and with BCS patience and expertise they have made her feel like she is learning and have got her well beyond her grade level. BCS has also given here great confidence about her self as a young lady. There should be an option for 10 stars.
love it they are good teachers
