I have been shopping at Brown for personal and business for 20 years. I’ll always go there first if I can. The staff know their inventory intimately and can help advise with nearly any lumber-oriented project or application. If they don’t stock it, they can usually get it in a couple days. They do custom cuts too if you don’t have a saw at home! They deliver as well. Love Brown Lumber!
Great quality, amazing service. Dan was great and put together absolutely everything necessary to build my admittedly simple deck. Turned out pretty great too! Great prices, wonderful quality.
I lived down the street from Brown Lumber for two years, and I can not rate them positively enough! Excellent customer service, fair prices, and a handy selection of tools for DIY projects. Plus the sign out front that tallies the number of times people have backed up into the pole is a hilarious addition. Would recommend visiting here for all your home improvement needs :
Not only did they have everything I needed, the staff walked me through the store step-by-step to make sure I got the products I needed. I asked for things by name that I use on the other side of the country and they were able to supply everything. They cut my lumber to accurate measurements because I didn’t have a saw at my brothers house. You don’t get service like this anymore. Even if they don’t have what the big box stores have, they’ll order it. Support local.
Employees are nice. The owner however likes to be very rude and shame you for not being a contractor and having the gall to actually ask for boards to be cut to size, which they supposedly offer as a free service. I like to support non corporate, but not corporate does not necessarily mean the owners are any better grade people.
Brown lumber is one of my favorite places to go in Portland. The staff is friendly and funny. The lumber is high quality. They are a good go-to for contractors as well as diy'ers. They've offered great advice when i ask, and always move quickly with orders. They even have a metal drummer on staff. You know. For fun.
Friendly, enthusiastic, intelligent, and well informed staff. This place must treat their employees right. They also have a large selection and should definitely be considered over Lowe's or Home Depot for lumber and supplies if not to support a local and ethical business.
Great service and selection, fair prices. A locally-owned gem. Much more appealing than a visit to Home Depot. The only downside is that their hours are limited.
I go there on will-call runs for a cabinet shop and Brown's often has coffee and donuts for customers. Friendly, helpful staff. Also has mid-sized hardware and tool inventory - covers all the bases.
Elitist credit/debit only without entry into the business to get what you need in an industry that is, quite literally, hands on...it was suggested I go across the street and get a gift card from Safeway. Nah, instead I just went to Ankeny Hardware on Stark where I'm never treated like s*** and they gladly accept whatever form of payment I have, whether cash OR card.
