BSA ER went above and beyond to help us in the midst of a catastrophic event. My mother was airlifted there from Borger. When we arrived shortly after they had landed they had met her every need and were able to professionally and succinctly give us the information we needed to know. The nurses were kind and acted in her best interest at all times while doing their best to keep us informed. The ER doctor on duty was extremely kind and gave us excellent information and guidance as we made difficult decisions.
Been here 4 hours my daughter has a serious staph infection and a surgical wound that has opened up. I have asked the receptionist Leslie three times if she can give me a estimated time that the doctor can see my daughter, and she has told me that she cannot. This is unacceptable and someone needs to see her asap.
Waited four hours just to have temperature and blood pressure taken during a severe fever, as high as 103 degrees. After waiting another three hours we were told some people had been waiting there 9 hours. At that point we just decided to leave and were seen immediately at an urgent care.
My spouse is having a cardiopulmonary crisis. We were told it would be 6hrs before he’d be seen. We waited a while and I asked again. Registration told me that the person in the room waiting longest had been there 5hrs 45min already. We left and went to a standalone ER on Soncy Road and he was seen immediately. It is horrible that we had the privilege to take our insurance and go elsewhere while Medicaid patients are languishing. This hospital ED is severely short-staffed.
Checked in at 1:33pm, it is currently 6:07pm and still haven’t been seen or called back. My daughter has a laceration that is still actively bleeding. I consulted 2 providers from a clinic who directed us to the ER for stitches. I was told there would be a bed cleaned soon but it wasn’t guaranteed to us even though we were the longest waiting patient.
This review is strictly based on the ER. We’ve had a few negative experiences, but today was just the “straw”. First of all, the “admitting” staff is outright rude. I realize they deal with difficult people, but to start out rude put a bad face on the hospital. They are the first thing most people see and a first impression. Training is desperately needed. If you can’t deal with the public, it’s time to find a new job. Next, my daughter being the patient , was taken directly to a “covid room” and left there without a way to call for a nurse or any staff even with a negative covid and flu test. She was sent to the ER by her primary care physician for severe right flank pain with the intention of having her checked for appendicitis. We followed the desired procedure of going to primary care first, and being directed by primary care physician to go straight to ER. I don’t think he would appreciate her being sent to an unmonitored room. Her pain increased while waiting and she could not find anyone to notify. She literally had to text me and I had to make a phone call to ask someone to go check on her. Unacceptable, period.
I asked for drinking water for my dehydrated toddler, then waited an hour and the nurse never came back. Used the call button and asked again for drinking water, waited another 30 minutes and nothing. I opened the door and stood in front of a group of 8-10 staff chatting and laughing, made eye contact with several and no one asked if I needed something. They don't care about you.
I hate that their resources are low but its not our fault. I went in and was greeted in such a rude way they don't have good people skills at all. I waited 3 hrs for my son to be seen and when I asked what was going on I was told the wait was 9 hrs. Its terrible... a lady was throwing up in a bag a few feet from us... one lady confirmed that she had been waiting 9 hr. Its upsetting my son has a fever and there's no one to help so we left. i know thats not the worst possible thing but i tried everything to get his fever down and i couldn't. When I looked online to get his results it shows they were in within an hour of us being there. When I tried to get clarity on what the results meant I was told they couldn't help. They need to hire more people ASAP!
I went into the Emergency Room on a Monday night, March 26th. I arrived at 9:30 PM. I was presenting with stroke like symptoms numbness in hand, lost vision in one eye, garbled speech. They got me back quickly to take my vitals. I spoke to a NP at that point. She said “We’ll start looking at the scary stuff, like a stroke, and work our way down.” I never saw her again. She ordered lab work. It took them about 1 hour to do that. After lab work, they sent me back out to the lobbywith an IV in my arm: no fluids. I sat there until 1:30 AM on Tuesday morning watching numerous patients go in and out pretty quickly. My symptoms reduced to a migraine behind my eyes at this point. I was about to go ask if they could take out my IV and just send me home when they came and finally took me back. I went back and didn’t have anyone come in the room for another 45 minutes to an hour. The nurse came in at this point. Shortly after that, the doctor came in. He ordered some pain meds at around 2:45 am and a CT scan to make sure his diagnosis of chronic migraines was correct. They came and got me for my CT scan at about 3:15 am. The lady told me my results would take 30-45 minutes. I went back to my room and waited. Then waited some more. At 4:53, I was finally administered the benadryl and pain meds for the headache that was just about gone at that point. My fiancé had told them we were about ready to go because they told us the results were in. No one came to discuss them with me until 5:15 am Tuesday morning. I was diagnosed with chronic migraines. I never got fluids. I waited 8 hours. Once I received my bill for my ER visit. I was charged for Trauma 4 care. The definition for this is “A severe problem that requires urgent evaluation, but doesn’t pose a threat to life or to physical function; without treatment there is a high chance of extreme impairment.” I did go in with this, but I was not treated as this level. I feel as if I was treated as a Trauma 2 care. The definition for this is “A limited, minor problem with no risk for death, and is not likely to permanently alter a patient’s health status.” I called the business office about this, and the lady was kind and sent in a dispute for me to try to change this. I got a call back and was told they wouldn’t change it “Because you had lab work done.” I asked “Isn’t that common practice when someone comes to the ER?” And she said yes. I was also told that I had until August to set up a payment plan. Now at the beginning of July, I was forced to make a payment plan that I cannot afford. I just did it because I can’t have it sent to collections and ruin my credit score. I just think that they overcharge you for service that isn’t good. They don’t care if you can’t pay it all at once. They just want their money. You’ll have better luck with NWTH if you’re going to the ER. I do believe the rest of the hospital operates fine, but the ER could use a whole new system.
