Terrible, really Terrible. I reserved a truck and they called me the day of to tell me they didn't have the truck, offered me a smaller truck and 15 free miles but I was going to have to get the truck 20miles away at a different location. The people there are stupid and I'll never go back. By the way I'm not filling it with gas
What to expect at Budget: Our experience at this location started with picking up a 26ft. box truck that had a broken driver window. As soon as we tried to roll it down, it fell through the crack and we couldn’t get it back out. We went back to get a replacement truck, but I’m pretty sure it was worse than the first one. The second truck was disgusting both the inside of the box and front cabin filled with trash and a taped handwritten sign inside saying “Let’s keep this truck clean and trash free”- your staff should clean and inspect the vehicles before renting them. There were also 4 GIANT golf ball size cracks in the windshield, a hole in the top corner of the bed that wasn't addressed properly in the back of the truck, and BALDING tires. They do not prorate your rental if you return early, and the staff at this location has terrible customer service. When I called to address these issues, they did not even acknowledge my safety concerns. I am an employee for another rental company and couldn’t rent a truck one way, so we went with Budget and I honestly don’t know how you keep your doors open. My company would never let a customer in a vehicle like this and your CEO should be ashamed. It is unlawful to provide a vehicle in the condition it was given to us in, and we were very concerned about the the windshield cracks would spread on our 13 hour drive IN THE RAIN while hauling 10k pounds of furniture and miscellaneous home items including art and gym equipment. I would love for one of you to rent a truck in the condition we did and see how you like it!! Moreover, a significant amount of our belongings were drenched due to the poorly “patched” up hole in the box of the truck. There is what appears to be aluminum foil where they tried to cover it up and there is a hole in it which is what caused the leak. NICE JOB BUDGET!!! I hope you are proud of yourselves, I honestly don’t know how you sleep at night or how you haven’t been shut down. We spent over $900 to rent this vehicle for 6 days for our move and can say it was a regret to hand over my hard earned money to this company that could care less about its customers and their safety. After calling the customer service number, we argued for 30+ minutes about the situation and the representative said he didn’t have authority to discount us for returning early or the unsatisfactory experience. Eventually he gave us a whopping $75 off. Wow thanks so much. Save your money, time and aggravation by avoiding this company.
Think twice before renting. Budget does not guarantee that you will have a vehicle. I received a call at 7pm, after the store had closed, that they did not have a vehicle for me the next morning at 8am. Leaving very little time to find another provider. Not the best experience.
Dealing with the truck rental unit was a complete disaster. The one bright spot were the ladies working the counter. But don’t try to call because these girls do not ever answer the phone. When you call corporate, they tell you to call the local office, who doesn’t answer any calls. Moreover, despite having the cheapest price per mile $0.50 in town, you more than make up for it in fees and charges. For example, much to my horror, when I went to fuel up prior to returning the vehicle and discovered the gas cap was replaced with random plastic pieces from a sink drain and duct tape. Not only do I believe this created an unsafe operating environment, but also left the truck physically unable to get a fuel pump into rendering refueling impossible. Of course when I returned the truck that night yes, there’s an extra charge for returning it at night and putting the keys in a drop box there is nobody working and low and behold the next morning they are running your card for hundreds of dollars in fees that aren’t necessary or warranted. Try to call them and dispute it. You’re more likely to see Sarah Palin’s face on a dollar bill than to ever reach anyone. And this is the only truck rental without online access to your account, not an app. You literally have no choice but to call and be ignored. Believe me, it’s well with the extra $0.20 per mile, log on or download either the uhaul or Penske app, save yourself from the drama.
I went with my 69 year old neighbor to rent a truck from the Leesburg, FL location a few days ago. They didn't have the 20 foot truck that he reserved, so they gave him a 26 footer, which for an elderly gentleman who isn't used to driving large trucks was very difficult to manage. He was told by the representative in Leesburg not to trust the gas gauge when refilling prior to return and to instead look inside the tank. When told by the Budget rep where to fill the gas tank to, my neighbor asked if he meant the flapper that he was able to see in the gas tank, and Budget confirmed this. When returning the truck in Ft. Myers yesterday, which we refueled just prior to our arrival at the Budget location, my neighbor was told that he didn't fill the gas tank all of the way. After explaining to the Ft. Myers rep what my neighbor confirmed with the Leesburg rep regarding the fill point, the Ft. Myers rep kept arguing the same point and clearly was not listening to his customer. We had to have Budget call the other location twice before we could get them to put the Leesburg rep that my neighbor worked with on the phone, and he kept arguing the same point that the Ft. Myers rep was arguing, which was that the fuel gauge showed as full when he left Leesburg. I guess that the Leesburg rep conveniently forgot that he told my neighbor not to trust the fuel gauge. By this point my neighbor already had high anxiety from having to maneuver such a large vehicle for a couple of days, so when he was told that he either had to go and fill it up or pay a hefty refueling fee plus 10.99 per gallon to get the tank to the level they required the inside lip of the tank as he was finally told upon return, he refused and also refused to pay the penalty and exorbitant per gallon charge because he wasn't comfortable with again having to get behind the wheel of the large vehicle. I asked for the Ft. Myers rep to give special consideration to a senior citizen based on the circumstances around the requested smaller truck not being available and his obvious anxiety around the prospect of driving the truck again, and his response was to tell us that his grandfather is 70 years old and has a commercial license because he drives them so frequently. I think that it's safe to say that he missed my point. So in summary, the Leesburg location has problems with communicating effectively and filling customer orders to their satisfaction, and the Ft. Myers location gives horrendous customer service to senior citizens. 1 star for both of you... and Ft. Myers rep... you should be ashamed of yourself.
Rented a truck NYC to Ft Meyers for $2700. It had 200k miles, steering wheel shook at 55mph and above, and when it rained twice in 2 days everything got wet in the cab including me. This was the only truck they had on the lot, and I could check for the shaky driving at the lot, not the leaky cab because it wasn’t raining. What POS over priced company. Avoid at all costs.
Arrived 30 minutes after my pick up time pick up time was 1:00 pm and I arrived at 1:30, the only thing they had available was a mini van...I had reserved a Toyota Camry. Best they could do was a Toyota Corolla that had just been turned in so I had to wait for them to clean it and get it ready. Staff was helpful but it was a long process, and I wasn't given suitable alternative options to choose from. Had to settle for a smaller car than I expected I'd have.
I have traveled for my job for over 40 years but have never experienced as poor of customer service as I have recently with Budget. I reserved a truck & trailer with moving blankets well over a month before I needed it. I called customer service 2 days before pickup to make sure everything was in order when they informed me there were no moving blankets available. Should they not have informed me of this when I made the reservation? Then as we were traveling from Iowa to Florida, one of the wheels & tire came completely off while hauling my car. I called customer service as soon as I noticed the problem. I waited over four hours before receiving a call that I would either have to wait until the next day for help or leave the trailer. Since we had a deadline to be in Florida, my wife was forced to drive the car & follow me the rest of the trip. After turning the truck in, I was told to contact customer service for a refund on the trailer since I didn’t have full use of it for the complete trip. After filing the request I was told it would take 5-7 business days to hear back from them. Eight business days later I called back and was told there was no final answer and that I should try calling back in a few days. I have spent nearly my whole career in the auto business where customer satisfaction is a top priority but apparently Budget does not believe in the same philosophy.
Truck rental on the Fort Lauderdale Side was great, super friendly, kudos to Sharon who assisted me. On the other side, a one way rental to Fort Myers, after calling three weeks in advance to get the "process" down for returning the truck "after-hours, friendly, very knowledgeable person, did not get here name at the Fort Myers office on Fowler street, but assured me yes I could drop off after 2pm on Saturday, April 17, 2021. I called Yesterday, Saturday, again to see where they wanted me to park the truck, and I was told abruptly that there was not after-hours drop off available. I mentioned I had to back to Fort Lauderdale that afternoon evening, and that I called three weeks prior after making the reservation. The young lady told me I would have to drop it off when they are open only. So conflicting info from two different persons at the same Fort Myers office. And when I told her I had to get back to Fort Lauderdale, she said, and I quote "That's not my problem sir...". But when I did drop off the truck around 3pm yesterday, April 17, they had a slot in the door for drop off. So left the truck, took pictures of the Vin, Full fuel tank, License plate, registration in the Glove Compartment, and US Dot number registration on the doors and all sides back and front of the truck, including the clean cargo area. Very poor customer service. I'm in the automotive business for 39 years, never encountered such rudeness an mis-information. I will be personally contacting the corporate office in New Jersey first thing Monday AM. Goes without saying I will report this same review on the Facebook, Instagram and corporate web sites and will NEVER EVER rent from Budget Truck Rental. Made a mistake of trying them, should have gone back to Penske. I have sent numerous pictures of the truck when returned Saturday, April 17, around 3PM to Budget Corporate in New Jersey. Pictures of the fuel tank showing full, license plate, and US Dot number registration on the doors and all sides, back and front of the truck, Inside of cabin...no damage. Also includes three pictures of the clean cargo area. Sunday, April 18 - 11:30am - I've had my daughter who lives in Fort Myers drop off the keys through the Budget Truck Rental Mail slot in the door. The website for the Fowler Street location show open Sunday, 9am to 1PM. No one there. Called 39 times from 9:01AM to 11:15am....no answer. As the webmaster for all of our stores, you should change the times on the website as some of us have an IQ over -5 and check the websites for current information. Really poor performance. Well, I guess really lack there-of. To tell the customer one thing a few weeks ago, and then someone working part-time on a Saturday another. Or a severe lack of training on basic operations of the location. I'm in the automotive business for 39 years, One employer and have never never encountered such rudeness an mis-leading information, and lack of due-diligence in running a business by not keeping your website up to date.
I normally don't complain, but this was cluster from the start. Walked in and 2 other people were waiting for trucks, so I had them call me when one was available. Drove the truck home and started to load it, and couldn't close the door. Called roadside assistance, they said that the cables on the door were stuck and there were parts missing! He was unable to fix it, so I had to get another truck. Any extra time I had to pack was eaten away because they obviously don't inspect their trucks, and Budget customer and roadside assistance did not handle the situation as expediently as I think they should have. I will never rent from Budget again, I'll pay the extra money for a U Haul. The extra stress is just not worth the lower price tag.
