Over all it was rough. Kelli the manager was a light in the dark. The houseboats are really tired and the pics are deceiving. We had issues from the start when we got there at 11am sharp which is the check in time. By the time we got going due to admin, it was about 3 hours later. Frustrating. Our boat actually had a hole in engine compartment and almost sank. By the time I got it back to the marina after getting another boat to get me in an area where I could contact the marina, Kelli jumped in and had another boat ready as well as a ski boat for the remaining day and a half to salvage the trip as best we could. She really made a difference with her professionalism and understanding. All fees were waived.
Scout, Theresa, Desiree, Marc,Tragan, Melissa, Rachata at the Lodge Restaurant, Precious at the Lodge, Kelley, Sailor were ALL so professional, courteous and friendly. All are such hard workers. Our trip was cut short due to a death in the family, but fabulous, we will be back.
Poorly maintained and surly staff. It would be nice if Aramark could hire someone to work in the office with more than two brain cells. There are spiders all over the docks, they aren’t spraying for them. The office girl didn’t seem to even comprehend that you could spray for spiders. Many of the side dock ways have the top layer worn off and the splintered wood is exposed. There is zero enforcement of the wakeless zone in the marina. Every time I see an Aramark van go by I have a little stick in my mouth.
Came in the off season for a boat rental for myself and my dog. The staff was really thorough in making sure I had a great day at an affordable off-season rate. You can tell that the marina is a bit short staffed, but those who are there Melissa, Tage, Sarah, January, and a few others who I forget do all they can to get you out on the water. Was nice that they also had a dog life jacket available for use. Overall I really enjoyed my time there and hope to come back in the future. Even with the low water levels, we still covered 100+ miles on the lake and had a great time.
Since the last time I visited, I was there for work, I said I would go back and revisit because it looked like it would be fun to go and boat around and swim and jump off of the rocks at certain areas... yeah, it was fun. Highly recommend it.
This review is strictly about the Marina. The Defiance Lodge was excellent and in no way is this review about the hotel. Lake Powell is absolutely beautiful, it feels like you are literally boating through a smaller area of the Grand Canyon. That being said, if you are renting a boat do yourself a favor and travel to Paige Arizona. I rented a boat there last year and had a really terrific experience. The same cannot be said about the boat rentals in Bullfrog. I couldn’t tell if the place was highly understaffed or if they were very unorganized, but a 7 hour boat rental 9 am to 4 pm, as shown on both the receipt and website was actually 5.25 hours. We didn’t even leave the dock until 10:15 and had to be back by 3:30 to fuel up. After we fueled up there was no one around when we tied the boat up so hopefully we did it correctly. TLDR: Save yourself some heartache and go to Paige.
We rented a speedboat and spent some time on the lake, which is beautiful! Though there were several hiccups with our boats one would not start and the other would not fill gas, the staff brought us another boat and accomodated the situation by allowing extra time on the water. We appreciated the flexibility and overall had a wonderful experience!
I really don't know much about the room but the people working here are friendly and helpful. The location is remote, but I love itHotel highlightsGreat view
Main ramp was open! That was awesome! Really shallow ramp though with the water low.
Visited yesterday, and had reserved a pontoon and jet ski. When making the reservation a week beforehand, we were told the time we pay for is from 8am-4pm and we could check in right at 8. We showed up exactly at 8am and it took until about 8:15 to sign everything which was no problem. Then, we were told to wait outside until an instructor was available to go over everything with us. By 8:45 there was still no instructor. I went inside to ask when we could expect one and was told very firmly that they were short staffed and I needed to be patient. I explained that I understood being short staffed and had no problem being patient, but we had paid a total of $1200 to get our boat/jet ski from 8-4, and at no fault of our own, our time and money were being wasted. The person at the front immediately interrupted me and said “you need to be patient” in a very rude tone. My husband and I walked back outside and waited another 15 minutes until we found another employee who we explained the situation to. She was much more helpful and immediately got us an instructor. She told us they would make up the lost hour to us which no one ever did. We weren’t on our boat and cruising until 9:20. If you do the math for what we paid, we lost about $160 from no fault of our own. Like I said, we understand being short staffed but all we were hoping for was some compensation for the time and money lost. Additionally, you have to pay for the fuel you use, and they have the prices jacked way up. We paid $7.25 a gallon. Overall, was very disappointed in the customer service we received and would not recommend going unless you’re into wasting your money.
