Buona is a quick casual restaurant chain that features Original Italian Beef, Pizza, Burgers, Hot Dogs, Sandwiches and Salads.

The first Buona restaurant was established in Berwyn, IL in 1981, by Buonavolanto Patriarch Joe Buonavolanto, Sr. He was among the group of Italian Americans who perfected Chicago’s original Italian beef.

The menu is a blend of old-school Chicago classics and next-generation menu choices – made from scratch with fresh ingredients. While the menu has expanded, the original beef recipe has not been compromised – for the three generations of Buonavolantos who are active in the company, compromise and quality are never uttered in the same breath.

Two words…. No Buona! I don’t even know where to begin. The theme of my two hot dogs was “extra greasy”. I shouldn’t have eaten them. If you look at the pics I posted, you would have agree they were not very appetizing looking. My wife’s Italian Beef was not hot. The cheese wasn’t even melted. BUT…. The fries were good. I am hoping they were just having a bad night…. and this was not normal. I really want to try Buona again and have a better experience.
I'm not sure why i decided to try buona after 7 years of not eating a burger here. I should have stayed away. Their burgers have no flavor, they are overpriced, and undercooked. The fries seem to have changed from the last time I had them. Customer service was the same as i remember. Mediocre at best. I'll definitely stay away from this place. Portillo's has been my go to and they never disappoint.
Buona is a fast food restaurant chain that specializes in Italian beef sandwiches. The restaurant has been in business for over 40 years and has locations all over the Chicagoland area. I recently visited the Buona location in Berwyn and had the vegan Italian beef sandwich with hot peppers and a lemonade. The sandwich was delicious! The bread was soft and the meat was flavorful. The hot peppers added a nice kick to the sandwich. The lemonade was also refreshing. The staff at the Buona in Berwyn was very friendly and helpful. They were happy to answer any questions I had about the menu. The restaurant was clean and well-maintained. They played basketball and soccer on the big screen for entertainment. Overall, I had a great experience at Buona. The food was delicious, the staff was friendly, and the restaurant was clean. I would definitely recommend Buona to anyone looking for a good Italian beef sandwich. Here are some pros and cons of Buona: Pros: Delicious food Friendly staff Clean restaurant Fun entertainment Cons: Parking can be tight Prices are a little higher than some other fast food restaurants Overall, I would give Buona a 4 out of 5 stars. It is a great place to go for a delicious Italian beef sandwich.
Came in for lunch takeout and got their protein bowl w/ beef and sausage and hot giardinara. Lots of food for the price! I went to Portillos the other day for their beef and sausage bowl and it was such a rip off. Same price and you get twice as much from Buona! Not only that the beef had much better flavor! Great food from this location! Highly recommend!!!
Asked for a cheesy beef combo with the sausage well done but got no combo lady said they made a mistake and said sorry, ok its cool but now i needed to wait and by that time my beef was cold. Would have been nice to switch my beef but it wasnt mentioned. Fries were good and there was a good amount of meat in the beef, drinks were really good we loved the lemonades and teas they had.
Went for the Italian beef promotion day. Line was expected and still they pumped out food at a pretty quick clip. Because of the amount of people and it being given away for free I didn't expect a full bun but it was a generous portion. For my taste the fries and beef needed more salt but it earned a return trip for me.Food: 4/5

The Italian beef was extremely good. When you have the gravy, they have a slight sharpness. You can vary the level of fire in your steak by ordering the beef dry and asking for extra gravy on the side if you prefer something milder. Additionally, their burgers and fries are top-notch. All indoor and outdoor parts of the institution provide excellent free WiFi. They provide a very lovely interior seating area with TVs and a smaller, equally nice outdoors seating area no outdoor TVs. A great place to visit with lots of delicious food and a kind, helpful staff.
I was so happy when I found out that Buona had the guts to stand out from the rest, risking MAJOR BACKLASH from fools by introducing their vegan beef sandwich. It's absolutely delicious! What makes a great sandwich, first and foremost, is the bread and they use Turano which is one of best in the world. When I order my vegan beef sandwich I add sweet and hot peppers and there ya go! The restaurant itself is CLEAN, airy, and the lighting is subdued, comfortable, makes you want to hang out for a bit and enjoy your food. Service is always top-notch, friendly, and efficient. A really well-managed, organized establishment. I'm the type of person who immediately walks out if I see that a food service establishment is run poorly, filthy, or they don't offer vegan items. I won't waste my time nor my money. It's 2023. Get with the program, people...a traditional, popular restaurant did just that...and won!
This place somehow feels like Chipotle without being Chipotle if that makes any sense. The menu is drastically different and the variety is very noticeable, that being said there is no intended contest, the menu genuinely is creative and features a wealth more than a traditional beef sandwich. Personally I ordered a chicken protein bowl. The fries are marginally better than you would ever expect. The dessert menu is the definition of bare minimum, but to be fair you shouldn't be coming for that. The drink choice does feature shakes AND alcohol. They don't just carry domestic beers, and have some wines, the selection rotates but I don't know when or under what conditions. Do not look at this place as fast food more like medium speed, and the ingredients seem to all be organic with no added materials. You may come for lunch, but avoid the rush get there before or after!
